I grew up boxing but changed to martial arts in my teens. It taught me to imagine my actual contact point being the inside opposite side of the actual point of contact, swing through. I noticed more knockouts from single punches from then on.

I would generate speed from using my body like a rubber band, I'd fake swing one way then spring the other way, I learned this from fighting good fighters that could anticipate what was happening which forced me to over come their skills with better skills. But that alone increased my power and speed.

the more your muscles are used to the movement, the faster you'll get. strength training is a must if you want a strong punch. work out your entire body, not just your arms. also, you want to do fingertip pushups to strenghthen the wrists, and just sit on your knuckles to flatten your tendons on your knuckles.

as other people said, hit a heavy bag. however, if you want maximum power, punching with proper form is a MUST. just because you want to be fast, doesn't mean you are throwing arm punches. if you are, then your punching power isn't NEARLY what it can be.
