I have spoken with a lot of older Americans, and they were appalled at the flag desecration. That really sticks in a lot of the minds of the more mature people it seems. And since theses are real voters(they vote on every issue every time) they are not happy with the actions that took place in Maywood,Ca
Yes I do think it made up the minds of people all over the nation that didn't really have a problem with illegals because it didn't touch them in a personal way.Seeing our flag treated that way made them sit up and take notice of the illegals here in this country.
They and the middle class working family were affected the most and can do the most damage to the illegals with their votes. Here in Arizona we are ready and able to get this taken care of with or without the federal governments help. The government has plans to build another fence near Bisbee,AZ that will join an already excising fence, funds were allotted to it over a year ago.
The mid term elections are only the beginning of the end,it didn't become a problem over night and it wont be solved over night. But it will be solved.Like I always say .Our legal vote trumps an illegal demonstration any time.

What May 1st protest? I was in Los Angeles during that time and had a detour route all planned out to avoid the Downtown streets where we were prepared to be flooded by this march of Mexicans and found a few demonstrators of older people, middle-aged, hardly no kids and traffic congestion as usual while everybody went to their jobs like any other day in LA--legals and illegals. I'd rather work and get paid too than walk around holding a sign when the whole city is multi-racial.

It hurt them in ways they cannot possibly imagine. The more vocal radical elements such as La Raza ,which is pretty much just the Klan with a tan, waving Mexican flags and shouting reconquista exposed much of the movement for what it is.

Illegal aliens do not want to immigrate so stop calling them immigrants. Immigrants assimilate to the nation they come to while the illegals want us to assimilate to them which is NOT how it works. Sure people say what about YOUR ancestors (well my ancestors came before there was a USA they came over in the 1700's)? I tell them look at the Italian immigrants, the Germans, the Dutch, the Chinese etc. They learned the language and the American way of life and became citizens so it's not racist to ask you to do the same.

What is also interesting is that the May 1st protest coincided with what is traditionally MayDay a day which celebrates socialism.

Hmmmmm.

The May 1st Day Without Illegals went by without putting so much as a scratch on businesses and those businesses that did take the day off are generally businesses that are patronized by illegals so they only hurt themselves.

I think that those marches really back fired on the organizers and the illegal aliens, when they started showing their flags from their countries and yelling bad things against the American government and asking for benefits that they don't deserved. Those marches show to the American people that there are too many of them in our country and what they really wanted. They don't want to be part of the USA, they just want our American benefits with out the responsibilities of those benefits. They don't want to be Americans, all they want is a good paying jobs so they could send all of their money back to their country of origin, draining our economy. I think that the right thing to do is deport them back to their country and make sure that our government start implementing the immigration laws that already exist.

I think so. There actions Outraged average Americans all over the USA. Seeing Thousands of Illegals Marching on American streets waving the Mexican flag FIRED up the sleeping Majority. They wanted attention. Well now they have it and they don't seem to like it very much. Be careful what you wish for you might just get it.

Honestly I think Americans were more amazed at people treating the American flag the way they did than the actual issues. After 9/11 everyone waived old glory with pride to show their support for the US and its troops. When they saw the flag being abused they took it as a slap in the face.

I betcha very few actually knew what they were protesting then. Now of course they do since it has been opined on endlessly.

It did make Americans a lot more aware of the issues surrounding illegal immigration. There were several really bad PR moves that they made, one was repeatedly putting the Mexican flag up shouting 'Viva Mexico'.

They certainly did not help their cause overall.
