Some years ago I had the weirdest experience. I don't like to fly so I was taking Amtrac from Arizona to Chicago. The second day I woke up at 6a.m. and we were somewhere in Kansas. I thought I was dreaming. We were going through an area of rolling hills, picture perfect homes and fields, but the amazing thing was that there was a mist in the air right to the ground with the sun shining through it, and the mist was pink and sparkly. It was so beautiful. I've never experienced that phenomenon before or since.

The most beautiful thing I ever saw was the birth of my children. I definately felt the divine presence of God as I looked into their eyes and felt their tiny fingers wrap around mine.

The thing that came to mind first was sitting at "fire bowl" at church camp. There is something about seeing a cross out by water and singing praise songs around a camp fire. I always feel God's presence when in the woods or if I'm driving through a blinding snow storm.

My newborn daughter, but it did not make me feel that there was a divine presence, rather the beauty of and hope for this brand new life.

Oh, as a parent I should say the births of my kids, but everyone else will, so I won't.

My breathtaking moment happened 25 years ago, when I had the pleasure of soaring over the Colorado Rockies in a hot air balloon.

Nothing before or since has quite captured the glory of the sun rising over the mountains, its colors reflected in the snow. Feeling the icy air turn warm, the utter silence.....It was truly a glorious, majestic experience.

The most beautiful thing I ever saw was my daughter's face when we picked her up in China from her foster parents. She was the absolute image of innocence and hope and the physical answer to our prayers. Yes, there was a definate devine presence in her face. And I wondered to mayself, how could you look at this tiny little girl and not believe in a Higher Power.

I once watched a large buck deer wade across a river that was about shoulder-high on him, then he walked out the other side and shook the water off his fur. The late-afternoon sun refracted through the haze of water droplets as they quickly flew in all directions off the deer's body, making him appear to have a multi-colored aura. It was cool.
You didn't think I was going to shoot it, did you? 'Cause I didn't. I was awed. I always sense the Divine when I'm outdoors, but this time it was the strength of this gentle animal driving himself across the river's current that I found especially inspiring. I smiled at him, but neither of us said anything. We didn't have to.

The most beautiful thing I ever saw was the Grand Canyon. It was awe-inspiring in its sheer scope and made me think about how much time it took to form it.

But no, it didn't make me think about anything supernatural. I can see beauty without invoking the supernatural.
