I e-mailed Lowes and asked them, but I haven't heard back. What, exactly, do I measure??

replacement windows, measure from jam to jam...take off the trim around the window and u will see the jams......do the same with the doors....

added: replacement windows come in vinyl and wood....90% of people use the vinyl....my method is for the vinyl ones.....if wooden, measure framing to framing......

On the door, measure the door that is currently in there. And then when you buy the door, make sure it is the same measurement. This also works for windows. And if there isn't currently a window or door in the spot, you can measure the rough opening. When you go to buy the items, it will have both measurements on the label. And remember to write down if your door opens left or right. They will need to know then when you order.

Don't take the final measurements yourself. Give them "nominal" (approximate) measurements. If you give them "final" measurements and the windows & doors don't fit, then you will be responsible !!!
