If so, do you work on line, or at the casinos? Do you make enough to comfortably live off of? Do you have a second job?

Hi,

In my opinion making a living off of gambling is one of the toughest jobs in the world. I would not recommend that anyone try it. Most people who gamble are playing more for entertainment value than to make a profit. That being said, it is possible.

I play poker online and make a profit consistently. I play mostly low and mid level stakes, so it it not enough to live on. I feel very confident that I could live off of poker winnings and I have been playing in larger stakes games lately. You have to be a very good player no matter what your game, although, I feel that poker has the best potential for profit. I live for poker, and if I'm not playing online, I am working on my poker site at http://www.ultimatepokerforum.com/.

If you feel that you can live off of gambling professionally, the biggest factor is usually bankroll. I would recommend that you have at least one year's worth of expenses saved up if you would like to try to gamble professionally.

I would consider myself a semi-pro as I have made quite a bit of money playing poker over the past few years. In the long-term, I am confident that I will make a profit. Poker can be a brutal game in the short-term, but, over a year's worth of play, if you are a great player you will always be up.

Here is a tip to try to improve your poker game - go with your gut instinct. I feel that this is one of the biggest factors. Many people will call when they feel they are beat, which is a big mistake. Sure, in the short-term it may not cost you much. But, each time you save even just one bet, you are more likely to make a profit over the long-term.

Yes, it is possible but it's very risky and few people can do it well enough to make a living from gambling alone. You are far better off accepting the truth. You have/had beginner's luck. If you like to play, continue to do so but only for fun and with money you can afford to lose. Continue your studies and work towards a career that is both fulfilling and rewarding. In the long run, you are much more likely to get ahead that way as compared to trying to make a living from gambling.

Well, between playing poker, dealing poker, and betting football, my roommate and I do make a living gambling. I've only been living off gambling income for a few months now, but my roommate has been living strictly off his gambling skills for years now.
So, yes, it is certainly possible, but it's not just some idle activity. We both spend a lot of time researching and practicing our skills and learning how to maximize profit. Just because it's only gambling doesn't mean we don't work at it.

You're probably in exactly the same boat as a large proportion of activities gamblers up and down the country that are losing a lot more than they actually win. It's likely you have the sporadic get that keeps you returning for more, but a lot of the time your alternatives lose. And that fees you actually more money! Well, until today I made about a thousand extra dollars a month. Has been that way for 4 years now, playing 2-4 and 3-6 limit holdem.

CRAP. I seriously am going to have to get another job, or sell my newer pickup. I count on that money.

True story.
