He's about 9-10 pounds and I feed him 2 small puppy sized bowls of food everyday, is this enough?

First, is he a puppy? Feeding puppies (dogs who are less than one year old) is a different amount than adult dogs. Read the instructions on the back of the bag of food. It should tell you how much to feed your dog. Read all the instructions because if you don't, you may overfeed your dog since the instructions are normally meant for one feeding (if the dog is an adult). Most dogs do better with two meals, so you would divide the amount in half if the instructions are for one meal a day, if you feed him twice/day.
If he is a puppy, you should be feeding him more. Make sure to read the instructions. The food you are feeding him should be puppy food, unless it is a brand designed for all ages of dogs.

Beagles are notorious for being able to consume large quantities of food and becoming overweight. They just love to eat! Keep an eye on your little guy to make sure he does not become overweight. When looking at your dog from a bird's eye view, he should show a sign of a waistline without ribs showing. If he has no waistline, he is too fat, if he shows ribs, he needs more food. Hopefully, he is just right.

Good Luck to you and your always hungry beagle! LOL

Friendly Hello, Depending on the size of the bowls. Normally as long as you feed a high quality food. Then your puppy should be eating enough. If your puppy still seems to be hungry you will need to up the puppies portions as it develops as the puppy will need more food. A beagle will burn a lot of energy. We use to raise and field trial beagles years ago. So it would not hurt to make sure that a little extra is given. Blessings, Kelly

As a general rule a Beagle will eat between a cup and a quarter to a cup and three quarters per day of a quality dog food (Purina one or better). The exact amount will depend on many things, and it is best to monitor the dogs weight or condition and adjust the amount they are fed accordingly. But,,,, in adjusting the amount do it slowly, never more than a quarter cup change.
There is a reason that beagles are often called "chow hounds" so be careful, they will eat a whole bag of food if you leave it where they can get to it.

how old is he?...if he is over 6 months he probably should be getting about 1/3-3/4 cup of food twice per day....beagles are notorious for being overweight....they will eat until they explode basically...i have a beagle/lab mix and he could eat my house if i let him. be very careful ....if he is a puppy and he is growing everytime you go to the vet then you are feeding him enough. beagles usually go up about 2-3 lbs a month until they are about 12 months old. goodluck!

p.s not to blast on the person before me, but DO NOT go by the back fo the food bag. they always overfeed your dog. Go by how big your beagle is getting or how much he is losing, depending on your situation. He should weigh about 22-28 pounds full grown.

The way to determine if you are feeding your dog enough is by his ribcage! Dogs should be slim for the best health. Guidelines on the side of the bag of dog food can start you off but it will vary based on your dog's metabolism and activity level. Start with that as a recommendation, and watch your dog's weight. If he starts gaining a little too much padding over the ribs (or his waist disappears), he's getting too much.

Good luck! It's not easy to keep dogs slim but it is worth it for their health! Christine

It should say on the bag what to feed him. Feed him the amount for his ideal weight, not what he's at right now (it could be the same).
