When you say you don't belong to a denomination, does that mean you have jumped back in time and become a first century Christian? What doctrines do you believe that are not identical to Baptists?

I am non-denominational simply for the fact that you can get too wrapped up in your denomination and forget the purpose of who youre serving and why. Our beliefs are almost identical to Baptist...without the church covenant. I simply worship Jesus...shouldnt we all?

It simply means the church doesn't belong to any larger group.
They still may be confessing Christians and adhere to the creeds and confessions like Baptist do. However from what I've seen most are rather watered down and very inclusive and don't hold to any real doctrines. Each one is different, some are reformed, some rather liberal. I however feel that the bible calls us to join together.

By being non-denomination, one does not use any laws outside the New Testament. The 'church' is set-up just as the churches described in the New Testament. Jesus is the Head, the Elders oversee, the Deacons do the physical work and the teachers and ministers preach and teach. All work is done in accordance with the New Testament and if it says to do it, then it is so, if it does not say to do it, then it is not so.

I'm non denominational, and I like it because we follow the Word of God only. I went to an independent baptist christian high school, and they believed that girls shouldn't wear pants or cut their hair a certain length. You shouldn't clap in church or use any drums or whatever other instrument they deemed unholy, and much more. It was just a bunch of ridiculous legalistic stuff. Though I don't doubt the Christians there are saved, I just don't like it when people put God in a box.

I was raised Roman Catholic. Then I gave it up, studied shamanism, dabbled with oracular junk like "Runes," and wound up attending services at a Presybterian (USA) church because I like the liberal, forward-thinking attitudes of the pastors.

But I stank as a "Christian." Until I read some of the books by a retired Episcopalian bishop named John Shelby Spong. I don't buy every he says, but it was nice to see some common sense and candor from an intelligent minister who understands that the junk taught from most pulpits these days is insulting to anybody with a grasp of 21st century science. I highly suggest his last book, A NEW CHRISTIANITY FOR A NEW WORLD. If you like it, check out his earlier books. He does not disappoint.

I am non denom. I don't believe any one churches doctrine is fully correct and I would be a hypocrite if I said was any of them.

Before I answer the 'Baptist' question - I must ask which Baptist? Southern Baptist?

Non-denominational, to me, simply means that I don't swallow hook, line, and sinker, the religion that a denomination sets up for me. Christianity, to me, is discipleship to Christ, under the direction of the Holy Spirit. I can fit in with any denomination, I'm just more authentic in my walk with Christ. I'm not satisfied with churchianity.

I accept the Bible as true and meaningful for today.
As such I believe in speaking in tongues, as a scriptural possibility, laying on of hands and so on.

Funny isn't it? If someone calls themselves non-denominational, that, in turn, IS their denomination!
