I am currently working with a personal trainer 3 days a week our workouts usually consist of strength training and cardio however I haven't lost any pounds yet. I've noticed I lost inches but not pounds. why is this and how do I change it? I'm getting married in 11 months and want to lose about 45lbs. I realize muscle weighs more than fat but I'm getting frustrated!!! Help

Don't worry about the scale - depending on the time of month, etc.... our weight always fluctuates. The scale will frustrate you.

Go by the way your clothes fit. As you know, muscle weighs more than fat so concentrate on weight training 4 days per week, resting between sessions and cardio 5 days per week, 45 minutes per session. Don't worry, it will happen before your very eyes. Trust me, you'll be fine.

If I may add a bit more to help you out.

Try and eat 6 mini meals per day. This will keep your metabolism stoked and never give your body a chance to think it's in starvation mode. Never skip breakfast, as it's your most important meal of the day, drink 8-10 glasses of water per day. Eat plenty of protein, fiber, veg and fruit and 100% whole grains.

Nothing will help you get rid of fat better than cardio. However, combining cardio with weight training will melt the fat right off. Muscle mass burns fat, so the more muscle you gain, combined with running and biking, the more fat cells your body will rid itself of; you'll tone up twice as quickly. If you're willing to have a more intense workout for faster results, lift weights at the beginning of your workout, getting rid of your initial source of energy- carbohydrates. After a moderate weight training workout, do 20-30 minutes of cardio that will burn all fat.

sounds like you answered your own question. Muscle weighs a lot more than fat...so you can burn off the inches and gain muscle so that you're the same weight. More than weight, i'd be concerned with your body fat percentage, as long as you're decreasing the amount of fat on your body, that's most important. If you want to build less muscle just talk to your trainer about it... doing more reps with less weight is good at toning rather than building muscle. Good luck, keep at it for the next few months and i'm sure you'll look great!!!

that is the same issue i had with a trainer you might want to bump up your cardio a little. the reason you are not loosing weight is because you are losing fat and replacing it for muscle, you should start losing pounds soon. don't get so caught up in the pounds the inches are more important

Here is what you need to do, if you are serious about losing weight and keeping it off. Eat 6 small meals a day about every 4 hours. Here what that will do for you, your metabolism will increase (i.e. Loose weight) and you will have more engry. If you go on a diet and eat less, your metabolism will slow down and store to fat. That is why diets dont work. Only the size of your fist, carbs (examples:baked potato, pasta, oatmeal, beans, corn, melon, apples, fat free yogurt, whole wheat breads)in one and protien (examples:chicken breast, swordfish, shrimp, turkey breast) in the other. You can also eat vegetables and salads with any meal, they dont have none or little fat). 30min cardo exercise every day. Any of these(examples: walking, jogging, swimming, running, biking, ect), Monday cardo, tues upper body (arms: curls, tricep extensions, pull ups, front press)(abdominals: leg pull crunch, leg raises), (chest: bench press, butterfly, pullover)(shoulders: front press, arm pullover, cross county skier machine)(back:seated row, lat pull downs, back extension)(YOU DONT HAVE TO DO IN ONE DAY, mix it up) wed cardo, thurs lower body (legs: leg pull, leg press, squats, lounges) fri cardo, sat upper. Sunday eat anything you want and dont exercising, you do this on sunday so your body doesnt go into starvation mode. YOU NEED TO TAKE SUNDAY OFF. If you stilck with this you will have a great body. also drink aleast 8oz of water daily! Stay away from Mcdonals, Wendys, ect because there is nothing good for you on the menu's even the salads are bad (beaon bits, cheeze, dressing, ect) Good Luck :)

muscle does weigh more than fat and if you are dropping inches, well that's a great thing..you'll fit into clothes better and feel better...don't sweat it..increase your cardio to 5 days a week...cardio and weights every other day and add two more days of just cardio...take a good walk, swim, ride your bike..do something for at least 30 minutes...and don't forget..calories in and calories out...Happy wedding!

Think of it this way, the inches and appearence matter more than what the scale says. Right?
