The average high temperature in Atlanta in December is 54 degrees.
The average low temperature in Atlanta in December is 36 degrees.

Atlanta has a humid subtropical climate, according to the Köppen classification, with generally hot, humid summers and moderately cold winters by the standards of most of the U.S.

In the winter, weather systems sweeping south from Canada, through the Midwest, bring temperatures that can reach below 10 °Fahrenheit (-12.2 °Celsius) a few times a year. The lowest temperature recorded in the city is -9 °F (-22 °C), reached on 13 February 1899; temperatures of -8 °F (-21 °C) were recorded well into the late 20th century. An average year sees frost on 48 days; snowfall is varied, averaging 2 inches (5 centimeters) per year. Larger accumulations occur; on January 23, 1940, the city had its largest accumulation to date, 10 inches (25 centimeters).
Nearly every winter in Atlanta, ice storms cause more problems than the annual snowfall. The most severe such storm may have occurred on January 7, 1973.

October is very cool, it's the true fall weather, average 70s, November and December get a little cooler. It snows maybe 3 or 4 times in the winter. It's usually just a few inches but when it does everything shuts down coz we panic and don't know how to drive in those conditions. But summer is horrible in Atlanta, they don't call it hotlanta for nothing. July and August are the worst. The humidity is extreme. I've been in Atlanta for about 15 years and I'm ready to jet to Seattle or San Diego.

Colder than a witches tit in a brass bra.

Very rare does it snow that time of year but it gets so cold in the morning that ice will form in the ground and then the strange mixture of ice and frozen red mud juts several inches out of the ground. We used to step on them just to hear the crunch while waiting for the school bus.

It does get cold. People think that just because it's the south, it's summer time year round. But it does get below freezing, but snow isn't very common.
