So, to even pose questions about political questions, many people's first response is for me to SHUT UP.

The SECOND most popular response is for me to read a book, do some research, get educated, etc.

The irony is that I am almost finished with my PhD--and I have two masters degrees, and, obviously the bachelors degree. I read, research, and get educated as a way of life.

What else must I do, before my questions are taken seriously?

First off, I STRONGLY disagree with you on the border situation; however, I liked your question. I relate to it. The responses that you get are the diatribe of an ignorant mind. They can not present a viable argument, so they take to insults. It really shouldn't bother you, if they respond in such a way it gives credence to your position, in that they are so afraid of it that they must lash out at it.

Oh Brother! Well its complicated. People respond to question in two different manners. One is by understanding it and then reason it weather in favor or against. Second is by emotions. Means what is acceptable in society ( without thinking about the merits and just knowing it by virtue of having it around for while in unopposed manner). For instance, Dixie Chick criticised Bush in Europe. Lot of people believe that its unpatriotic to say some thing against your govt in a foreign country. They opposed Dixie Chicks right away without thinking what did they say! they did not have to think about its merits but this kind of Critisim is considered unpatriotric so it just filter out of there thought process without analysis. On the other hand, they could also think in this way that whats the big deal of criticizing the govt. in Europe. We have a free society and they have a free society. If we can say anything about religion, people etc. why not Govt. So just an example. In world of propaganda, the first step is to create such labels about someone, and then blame them whatever you want. If those poor people will try to reply with reason against those blames, then people won't listen. Why? Simply, because as soon as such group or such a conversation will arise, those labels will click up and people will stop thinking any further and will just hate this thing like a machine. Therefore nowadays as soon as you raise certain question, people without thinking anyfurther will oppose you, simply because of the fact that Pavliov theory works!!! But to answer to such Brain wash is that you keep reminding people of the fact! Peace

There is nothing more useless than a PhD who has spent all her time in school and has no clue how the world really works. Get your head out of the books and away from those damn liberal teachers who have been brainwashing you for the last 12 years and GET A CLUE AND A REAL JOB.

Webster defines "discourse" as "communication of thought by words.." I think that answers your question. There is little or no thought discernable in most public conversation today, at least what we see on TV. Also, I think good discourse may require some integrity on the part of the persons involved. Today, it seems that many are incapable of presenting a position based on thought and facts. Therefore, they rely upon shouting, name-calling, and manipulating the truth and facts in any way that suits their purpose. It is most unfortunate.

I take your question seriously. People have a tendance to lash out sometimes simply because they are anonymous and typing away on their computers at home. I doubt they would be so crude in person, well I hope not.

I happen to like it when really interesting questions are asked.

You sound like a really nice person. Perhaps you could phrase your questions differently. What have you chosen to for your PHD. I have't got quite as much education as you but I'd really like to discuss politics with someone. Feel free to email me.

I read your previous questions and answers I did not see any one tell you to SHUT-UP. I read allot of good thoughtful answers and a few dumb asses who get on line to bash anyone they can.

Shut your pie hole!

Just kidding.

Probably your questions are dismissed because you are asking them in a really unfair way.
