It doesn't say anything about this in the bible, but I was wondering if it was a hidden meaning somewhere. Bands like simple plan, good charlotte, all american rejects...would god allow us to listen to them (they aren't bad and they don't curse they are just not christian music)? And would he allow us to read things that aren't realting to the christian heritage? Or watch non christian shows on television, or anything else that isn't bad just not talking about christians and what not. Is this okay with him, or is it sinning?

it's written in philipians 4-
think on whatsoever things are holy, pure, and just, of good report, of there be any virtue, if there be any praise, think on these things.

I watch tv shows that ren't Christian. I don't personally listen to nonChristian music. I know of several Christians who do. Even Christian musicians do. Just sift through the myspace Christian bands and you'll see who they listen to.

I started to list a whole lot of bands who listen to nonChristian music too but there is just way too many to name.

There's something called CurseFreeTV or TV Guardian. It cuts out cusswords from cable and movies. It might be a good investment. I have one.

i wanted to address the no such thing as christian bands thing. if you go to walmart, best buy, or some music store, you'll find a christian music section. how do you know if they're christian? they're in the christian music section.

the same logic from the previous post would say that there is no such thing as a band because there are only musicians working together.

there is a christian music genre. christians who make up a band and play nonChristian music does not make them a Christian band.

sorry for keeping adding...

someone said my god this and your god that. it's true that their god doesn't care what they do because he doesn't exist. he's a figment of their imagination. it's popular these days to design your own version of god in your mind to suit yourself. the bible calls this idolatry. it doesn't matter if the god or idol is made physically or mentally.

True Christianity isn't about do this and don't do that. The devil had me in bondage once but Jesus set me free. When we truly except Jesus, the Holy Spirit becomes are guide.I used to belong to a church that claimed to be the one true church,it took a long time for me to realize that God is bigger than any church or organization here on earth. That is not saying we have no rules or guidelines to follow. We have rules that we follow in our homes and what would they be like if we didn't?But every home has different needs and different rules to adjust to the need.God knows this and He is a God that has reason and understanding. It is the same in the spiritual home , you our the temple of God if you have truly excepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior."Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it ; except the lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain." Psalm 127:1.We as Christians because of the love we have for God and those around us often fail when reaching out to others. We don't have all the answers, yet we should have something to give when it is needed.Jesus is the way the truth and the life.If you truly desire the truth He will also give you life abundantly. If you reject His truth He will also reject you. When taking part in the entertainment you have suggested if heart feels free with it, God bless, but if your heart condems you, just remove yourself from it, and thank the Lord He is showing you a better way.Remember He has something for you to do, and you won't go unrewarded for doing it.

In the book of Matthew, Jesus had dinner with "sinners" all the time. By surrounding yourself with "Christian" things, you are NOT doing what God did ask Christians to do - to go out and make disciples. The only way you can share your faith with others is by being with others, and not just hanging out with other Christians.

There is also no such thing as a Christian band. Members in a band can believe in God, but there are many bands who aren't "Christian" bands who are made up of Christians.

Paul of the Bible also quoted many philosophers of his day and time in order to relate to his culture. The philosophers were not Christian. But truth can be found in many things.

Paul says in the bible that everything is permissable but not everything is beneficial. I think you need to examine what you are watching and reading, and listening to and decide if you think it is bringing you closer to God or further away. Someone once told me to use this as a guide, would Jesus watch, read, or listen to this? If you are feeling guilty about doing this stuff then maybe you are being convicted. Just talk to God and see what He tells you.

Well when you go to the store you probably get as much evil thrown at you as in most movies. What we need to do is try to focus on Him and His word.If your watching non-christian things remember the most important thing you need to do is guard your heart.Do not allow it to become a copycat of the evil you see or hear.If you feel you heart is starting to harden towards God quit doing those things and get it right with God,But I wouldn't suggest becoming a monk just strengthen your commitment toward God.Take Care and May God Bless You.

My God doesn't care if I swear and lets me watch and listen to whatever I want to. My God wants me to be a good an honest person and to do good things.
But it sounds like you are enslaved by your God. You need to rethink things perhaps. Many Christian faiths (and some other religions of course) seem more interested in "scaring" their flock and not enlightening them, it seems like you are one of these victims.
My God could give 2 sh*ts what swear words I use or not, what does that have to do with anything? Cause the bible says so? Ridiculous! The Bible was also written long after Jesus died, I take very little stock in it.

It all depends on the lyrics. If the song is singing about cheating, money (God said that money is the root of all evil) or anything like that then that isn't good in God's eyes. TV is evil in so many way's and so is the internet. Just depends all on the message that is being sent. The Devil is sneaky...

hmmm...several times you use the phrase "would He (God) "allow" " He gave us free will, so I don't think it is a matter of "allowing." As to whether it is a sin or not I am not sure. I would like to say no, because I like several TV shows and love a lot of different kinds of music. I guess it is like, are we putting any of it above Him? Are we idolizing it, is it corrupting us, or is it keeping us from doing His will....Good question

God is not bound by time or space so all that we know of now, God has know all along in addition to what is to come. I don't think God would oppose. What for?
