I have Hepatitis B and C. C has become so advnced, I just had surgery last week due to complications. Dr. says without transplant I have 6mos. to 1 yr. to live. I am 50 yrs young and feel I have more I want to see out of life and to give to life. From small east Tex town and most of the Drs. are only affiliated with our hospital system and the Drs. affiliated there. The nearest transplant Hospital is Baylor Hospital in Dallas. Our Drs. are unaffiliated.I'm about ready to walk into the ER at the hospital and tell the girl at the window for complaints and ailments that I need a transplant of my worthless liver. Somehow that lacks in any realistic outcome of achieving my goal.

Go to the ER at the transplant center. You need a transplant evaluation. This does not happen overnight, so the quicker you get there, the sooner the process starts. Best wishes to you.

You need to be registered in the national organ registry in order to receive a liver for transplant - and it can take a long time before a liver is available so the sooner you register the better. You may be able to research the hospitals in the Dallas area to find out which perform liver transplants and if there are more than one I would investigate how many are performed per year, how are the outcomes, and do they have a high post surgical infection rate. I am not sure if there is a web site for this. You could contact your state's attorney general's office or the state's medicare/medicaid office or local health department to find out how to get this information. Knowledge is power.

Call Parkland Hospital in Dallas. It's a county hospital and one of the very best. You don't need to be affiliated with anyone. Just contact them.
