I would go with Allin R on this one (answer two) however I would improve on that with a alternating 45 degree angled cross brace on out side to be sure. it don't get much better than that. more than any thing thought make sure all your peaces are as close to the same as possible the tighter you make the tower ( the joints) the less stress points to flex and brake.

Use an x brace vertically in the center of the towers shell.
