i told my friend to ask a guy to the dance for me, but then i found someone else, and i thinkhe want to go out with me....what the heck am i posed to do?

If the obligation is already made, you just need to suck it up and go with that person.
Do you really want a rep for leaving people in the lurch because a better offer came along?

Only ask for yourself from now on. If you are commited to going to the dance with someone else, then go. Nobody says you have to see him after the dance.

Pick which one you really do want to go to the dance with, and then you ask the one you pick. Otherwise, if it turns out the other guy actually doesn't want to go, then you will be stuck without a date.

Be honest, no matter what the decision you make is. The first guy might be great to go to the dance with, but what's to keep you from dancing with the other guy...? Point to ponder.

Tell the truth to the one you do not want to go out with. It is best to be honest. You do not want to hurt anyones feelings. It is best to be forward that way no one gets into you and you do not have to break it up after that long.
