I am doing a research paper for school and I am looking to find out how much wicca has grown over the years among ages and also the sexes. I have not been able to find any graphs or charts while researching.

There have been similar questions asked today, the long and short of it is that it is impossible to say because Wicca is seen by many as a fad so take the title of Wicca to look cool often without understanding Wicca let alone knowing what Wicca is.

You simply won't find information on it because it is impossible to tell how many Wicca there are, if there was ever a poll or survey then there is nothing stopping people from saying they are Wicca when in actual fact they are not.

It is also difficult to tell because Wicca is oath-bound and many go as far as to avoid telling people they are even Wicca let alone anything else about their path, Wicca by large seem to like to stay out of the way and let everyone else get on with it, they avoid a lot of people a lot of the time to avoid being constantly bothered by people asking for help studying Wicca or people attacking them for there beliefs.

Wicca grows as fast as any family grows, from first degree to third degree can take a long time so covens hiving off may not happen very often, but within Wicca there is a strong bound so it grows consistently even if it do not grow rapidly.

As a side note Witchvox is a good resource however it is not reliable for information on Wicca because it classifies Wicca and Neo-wicca as the same when they are certainly not the same at all, a better resource may be to try asking on Amber and Jet - they won't be able to answer you but they will give you a good discussion as to why not and hopefully an idea as to how Wicca has developed and grown over the past ten years.

I've seen some numbers, in terms of growth, but most of them are severely dated - more than 5 years, at the very least, and sometimes pushing more than 10.

Witchvox.com might have some more solid numbers, and maybe religioustolerance.org.

The problem is that the surveys that go out are not only few and far between, but involve a lot of extrapolation, because they reach only a small percentage of people, and only some of those people respond.

I've often seen Wicca quoted as being "the fastest growing religion in the US" but sorry, I've never seen any proof to back up the claim.

I'd search for Census Bureau stats. :) Hope that helps.

"Wicca" has been turned in to a fad over the last few years. Most young people think it is just the "cool" thing to do. And the misrepresentation of the word has become horrible.

It's grown about 1600% in the last 10 years or so according to an ARIS survey.
