yes, any thing in anybody's body can break. And yea like the others are saying see a doctor and get an x ray. In the mean time put some thing cold from freezer like ice on the swelling part with cloth wrap around cold object. you don't want it too cold on the bare skin which could do more damage. Also get someone to take you to doctor too. sorry to hear about your foot so good speed on recovery.

Absolutely!
The ball of the foot is the Metatarsal bone. There are five Metatarsal bones in the sole, and they are attached to the sevenTarsals that make up the ankle area, and that connects to the Calcaneus bone, which is the heel. The Feet and Hands not only share the same names, but also the same arrangement of bones. There is also a possibility that you could have torn a tendon too. See an Orthopedic Doctor and get checked!

Absolutely. There are several bones in the foot and any one of them is susceptible to breakage. You stated that its the ball of your foot. Some people call the heel of their foot the ball because it is round. If this is your case that bone is the calcaneus and can be easily broken. Your best bet is to stay off it, get it elevated, apply ice at 20 minute intervals and get it x-rayed as soon as possible.

Ow! That even sounds painful!

Yes, it is possible for bones there to break, or for sprains to develop. You might want to get that looked at before the bone starts to knit wrong.

Good luck!

It most certainly can break, you may want to get an x-ray to be sure.
