Following the teaching of the pope and his cardinals, bishops, and priests, and their interpretations of appropriate religious practices.

Some of these responses are filled with misinformation. Catholics follow Jesus. The Pope is the head of the church. The Pope speaks/teaches on matters of faith. Catholics contribute to the support of their home churches and to the missions (other churches located in impoverished/3rd world nations).

If you are interested in Catholicism, you may want to seek out a church that offers classes. Some of the people in the class are interested in converting. You can sit in on a few of the classes and see if this is really what you are hoping for. You can also make an appointment with a priest or a sister and talk to him/her about your questions.

Also, if you have friends or coworkers who are Catholic, you may want to ask them about their faith. Maybe go with them to church once or twice.

I have been a Catholic all my life (50 years). There are parts of it I love and parts I dislike or disapprove of. But, that's life.

Good luck in whatever you decide. :)

I was baptized Catholic when I was a baby. Became an agnostic in my 40's. Up front I must admit I have authority issues. The Catholic religion is very authoritative that combined with the subjective nature of spirituality was my undoing. I feel there is a force in the universe; I also feel no religion captures that force. I occasionally attend Church Unity or Unitarian.

Be careful of others churches. The bible is pretty much from the Catholics, others are rebels from the original source. As strange as it seems, keep one foot on the ground when you select a religion. Best of luck, ned

Catholicism means system of The Universal.I believe they are the oldest known(recognized)christian church. They magnify the worth of Mary the mother of Jesus, and the saints. They are probably the richest and most established of the major religions.According to the particular church, they practice many ,if not all the seven Sacraments.Though very dogmatic and political, they are my favorite 'brand'of christianity.I don't believe in going to church, but I love to study Christ and spirituality from this perspective.Very gothic.Converting from what?

Catholicism is about knowing all there is to know about the one, true God, and striving to understand it all, so it becomes possible to appreciate the love God truly has for us all, and be able to return it in kind.

Catholicism is about becoming one with Jesus Christ, one with his Father, and one with the Holy Spirit.

Catholicism is about being afraid of no one and about being at peace with both God and man.

Catholicism is a beautiful faith that happens to be based on the truths of a beautiful and loving God.

It doesn't get any better than that.

Here are our basic beliefs and two links about the Catholic Church

We believe (I believe) in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, and born of the Father before all ages. (God of God) light of light, true God of true God. Begotten not made, consubstantial to the Father, by whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven. And was incarnate of the Holy Ghost and of the Virgin Mary and was made man; was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried; and the third day rose again according to the Scriptures. And ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of the Father, and shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead, of whose Kingdom there shall be no end. And (I believe) in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father (and the Son), who together with the Father and the Son is to be adored and glorified, who spoke by the Prophets. And one holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We confess (I confess) one baptism for the remission of sins. And we look for (I look for) the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen."

It's about believing that Jesus is our saviour and that we eat his body and drink his blood which Jesus gives us as part of the grace he gives us in order to receive everlasting life. Go to your local Catholic Church's rectory (administrative building) and ask the parish secretary for a few "introductory pamphlets."

I was born and raised a Catholic and I am proud to be so. I also respect others' beliefs and I offer charitable works, such as volunteer work and monetary donation, as part of loving Jesus.

I hope this helps you a little bit. I hope you feel welcome in your spiritual journey. -Diana

Its about being part of a very organized religion where those at the botton (priests) have nothing and those higher up (biships, cardinals, etc have it all. They take the position that all otehrs are going to Hell, not that I think a real God would do that.

I have reported every one of you that have defamed the Catholic Church and I will continue to do it. It is NOT open season on the Catholic Church! You are insulting and very rude.
