I find its easiest when the dog is really tired or just woke up because there very sluggish. If the dog isnt used to having the nails trimmed let him get familiar with the tool ur gonna use, let him sniff and lick it so that hes ok with it being around him. Next lay the dog on its side and lift up the foot and when you look at the nail you should see a thicker part underneath it that is the vein that you dont wanna cut. So when you make ur cut be sure that you cut B4 the vein. If by accident you do cut it it's not a big deal, flour works great to stop the bleeding but ensure you clean it after it has stopped

The best way to trim dogs nails (if the nail is white or clear) is to look for the pink inside the nail and cut about three millimeters below it. The pink is the nerve of the nail so you want to be sure not to hit it. After nails are cut then you can file them with a regular nail file. You can buy nail trimmers from pet supply stores or just use big toenail clippers.
~Best wishes~

trim them back as far as the nail color changes. meaning all the new growth can be cut. be careful not to cut to far or you may have to go to the vet. your best bet is to take your dog to the groomers and let them do it the first time while you watch and then go buy to proper clippers to do it with. Please let someone show you first. You may hurt your dog.
Just a little tip. By walking your dog on concrete you actually file down the nails naturally. So a brisk walk might be in your near future??????

Before you start, I would recommend for you to go to Petco, or whatever pet store of your choosing, and get some "quik stop", because, especially if it is your first time cutting, accidents happen, especially if the dog is finiky about his paws. (That's why a good vet will recommend for you to mess with the dog's ears, mouth and paws, as yearly in the pup's life as possible so it doesn't bother them when you need to clean/cut.
Then holding the paw firmly with one hand, push on the top of the paw with a finger or thumb to seperate the nails or "fingers if you will", then barely clip about - <
Hope you do well.

Trim them even with the bottom of the pad, that way you won't get into the quick and make them bleed.

With dog nail clipper and do it a little at a time, the skin will recede after you cut them and then you can cut more.

You can take it to the vet or a local groomer and they can clip them for u so that u will not have to do and cut them to short or something like that!

take them to the vet or groomers. ive tried to trim mine at home but its difficult because they get scared. so i found taking them to the groomers was cheaper than my vet.
