I don't want to quit cussing and my dad tried to convince me that the Bible strongly forbids it. I told him my pastor told me that it's between me and my God. My dad says he doesn't care what my pastor told me, it's a sin and he quoted stuff out of the Bible that didn't really make sense to me. I told him that unless it said it in the red words that cussing is an abomination to God I wasn't worried about it. I don't believe Jesus would be bothered by such a legalistic thing as bad words. I believe Jesus was more concerned about loving one another and taking care of the poor. There's Faith, Hope and Love and the greatest of these is Love. That doesn't jive with forbidding little things. My dad is good at obeying all the stuff you're not supposed to do. He doesn't drink, smoke, cuss, comit adultry, etc. I don't even want to give up my vices...lol.

By the way, I never cuss in front of my dad. I have too much respect for him than that but I do cuss around my friends and my brother.

You know it says in the bible that if your son disobeys you, you can take him to the town council, tell them he disobeys and have him stoned to death. It doesn't mention girl children... but I'd be careful.

You cannot serve two Gods. If you cuss and do things you know are not Christlike then you are living in the sins of this world. Not only that but cuss words are really nothing more than an excuse for a poor vocabulary. If you are going to portray yourself as a Christian then you must cast aside your vises and follow the Christlike path. And I do not believe you will find cuss words interspersed with the red words.

uh have to disagree with you, just because words are not in red in your bible doesn't mean you should omit and object to them.

The ten commandments are not in red... the bible is a book set out for daily living in all times, the present included.

The bible makes it very clear about your tougue being a double edged sword and becareful what you say because what you say comes from your heart, and our hearts do and can betray us.

There is many passages stating that we need to stay away from gossipers... slanderers, so why would cursing be any different, cursing is a form of put down isn't it? Even if you are not putting someone down, your are cursing at something you are doing and that in turn gives you liscence to curse at anything, whether it holds meaning to you or not.
There is no love in cursing, think about it, we have to set an example for those who are not Christians or just setting out in thier Christian walk... many people do not like to hear cussing, would you like it if your pastor or minister cussed on the pulpit and didn't see a problem with it?
Your dad is right, you have a bad habit, and there are other ways to vent frustration and anger... cussing is a form of anger don't ya think? God's word does say that we sin in anger... even if its unintentional... I didn't mean to cuss at you, or I didn't mean to call your dog a da## idiot, words hurt however they are used, and you don't want to give yourself further licence to take the cussing a step further.
God is right and always right, we have a choice to disagree, but it is an honour and priviledge to act accordingly to what He wants.
Jesus never cussed, He got mad, sure, but did he swear... no there are more respectful meaningful ways to get your point across.
Respect yourself and honour yourself enough to not cuss...by not doing so, shows a more dignified you.

Pretend for a moment that the Bible were totally irrelevant to the argument you and your dad are having, and just answer these questions to yourself:

- What are the benefits of cussing?
- What are the costs of cussing? (include the displeasure of your dad in that and all the hassle he causes you for it)
- Do the benefits outweigh the costs?

Ethics are easy to determine once you remove rediculous ancient writings from the decision process.

Only those who are a member of the Body of Christ rise with him to a new and eternal life so the Apostles and all the Saints are a member of the body. As a member of Christ THEY have said not to use rude and disgusting language so whether Jesus himself or a member of the Body of Christ said it --it is the same thing as Jesus saying it for whatever miracles were done by the Apostles and Saints were done through Jesus too.

Careful girl. The 'red letters' as you call them in the note (the red letter edition) is one of the additions to God's word. Yes, all the letters in red are the words of Christ. However, not all of Christ's words are in red. All the 'red letters' are found from Matthew-Revelation. However, the Lord (capital L) from Genesis-Malachi was the Lord Jesus Christ.
The majority of the time, I agree with your Dad, in the above. One aspect that one has to be careful of presently in the US, is that we judge things on a 'majority rules' basis, whereas God goes by a purity rules basis.

God says, wow, a lot of strange answers here and most of them by idiots. I DO NOT control the vocabluary of any people, and therefore any word that is not spoken in violence or hate is acceptable to me. I am concerned with intent, not content. If your father asks you to stop cursing because he is uncomfortable with it, that is one thing, if he says it is a sin he is TOTALLY wrong. God says, in this case your Pastor is correct!

we'll there you said it. they are bad words. if God was in front of you, would you talk to him with such vulgar language? the Bible says, "let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight o Lord" besides that, if you're dad asks something of you, like you say, little things, don't you love him enough to stop? think about that.
