Okay so I have a cat, her name is Diva, lately she has gotten upset over this name, claims it does not represent who she is, she says she is an independant cat and wants to be called Kitschy, is this the end of the honeymoon?

The cat is more high maintenance than my ex-girlfriend. Let her go. There are kitties out there that would response to any names you call them as long as you feed, pet and play with them.

Well one question is it a Siamese? I have had more cats in my house in the last 11 years then many people. The only cats I've ever had that want to pick their own names are the two Siamese mixes I've had here, both of whom looked very Siamese. I tried to name them but the names they wanted kept popping up in my head.
Orion was the first and so we called him that, little did I know that the legend of Orion would completely fit his life. When he 6 months old he injured his left eye, and when he was a year and a half old he died tragically. I will never have a cat I like more.
I thought he was a special case until recently. I recently had a tortie point female come into my life. When she got here she was 4 weeks old and I named her Rumor. Well she didn't like it and wouldn't respond to it. The name Petra kept popping up in my head, so after a week of that I looked it up. Petra means rock in Greek, and is a famous rock city. The first time I called her that she came running and that is her name.
If your cat wants a particular name chances are you'll get the best response using it. I know I did. None of my other domestic cats have done this, they all like the names I've chosen.
Good Luck and I'm glad I'm not the only person with a peculiar cat.

Well, I think you knew what you were getting into when you were adopted by Kitschy, so it's a little late now, besides, the shelters are overcrowded with so many other pets, it horrible. Call her whatever she wants to be called, after all, what's wrong with Kitschy? It's very unique. Diva on the other hand is a very generic name.

Cats actually have three names: 1) the name we (humans) call them 2) the name other cats call them 3) their own name that only they know.....
If your cat is wise enough to communicate to you that she would like to be called Kitschy, then honour her =D

I too have cats and I am well aware of their independent nature. I thought this question was so funny I had to answer even though its not even a question, but more of a statement with explanation. I still like it because it gets right to the nature of cats and the people who care for them.

That is so funny! My cats have great personalities. They "talk" to us too. The other day we walked in to the room and both cats were sitting next to the dog and I'd swear they were having a meeting. It was animal farm all over again.
Name her what she wants. I have a Sagwa which means melonhead in chinese I believe & a Cinnamon who is very shy & sweet.

Probably lol she will now ask you to serve her food in crystal dishes and provide her with a diamond studded collar. She already has a fur coat. I hope you have already provided her with the adoration to which she deserves.

You have a talking cat? You should be on Leno or Conan at least. Maybe, if you're lucky, even Letterman.
