wise tales saying your parents told you as child?

The topic of old wise tales came up today. I was surprised at some of the different ones I heard. What wise tales do you remember as a child? i.e. Swallow a watermellon seed and it will grow out of your ear.

To teach us to avoid disappointment my dad used to say "Fish die, Balloons break"..... Deep huh?
