You're going to need to obtain some sort of photo ID, whether that's a driver's license in your current state or just a regular ID (I think there's a way to have a photo ID issued by your state that isn't a driver's license).
Even if you weren't flying, sooner or later you're going to have to produce photo ID for something... so I'd just bite the bullet and get one.
In light of your recently added information, I'd call the DMV in Washington State and see what your options are. Maybe they keep your photo on record and can just issue a duplicate of the license you lost?

You are in a not so good situation. So you lost it? As in you know it is gone for good or just can't find it? Because either you search and search and search more until you DO find it.
Otherwise if you can't get a license from the state you were in, can you get one in this state? Or you can apply for a passport and expedite it which this can cost you oh about 180 bucks easily. But I do think they ask for a photo ID, honestly don't remember as I got mine 7 years ago. You also need to send a Birth Certificate along with it.
Like I said if you just misplaced it I would look hard. It's always a good idea to have 2 forms of ID just in case of something like this.
Was your purse stolen is that how you lost it? If so then IF a police report was filed at the time then you can contact the airline and they can work with you possibly with the police report.
Best of Luck to you. Regardless you might want to go out and get a passport. Starting Jan 8th 2007 it will be required for anything outside the US.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately, you do not have many options.
1. First call the airline and tell them your situation. Find out what they will allow for exit and entry from your destination. ***As a rule of thumb, always take down names of who you spoke with and dates*** If they will deny boarding without your photo ID....
2. Contact the local DMV and find out their requirements to get a photo ID (whether it be a Driver's License or if they offer a State Photo ID). You may be required to present more then just your birth certificate to obtain a local photo ID from a different state. Different states may have different requirements.
3. The passport, which will be required for travel after January of 2007, will be another option. HOWEVER, they also require that you present a photo ID to apply for it, so that presents a problem. If you can obtain one, and you want to have it expedited, they will take the copy of your birth certificate and return it with the new passport. There may be sites in your area that can issue a passport in one day, all you need to do it make a reservation at the location and pay the necessary surcharges.
Good luck!

I would try calling the department of motor vehicles in Washington and ask them for assistance. If you have a return ticket, ask the airline what your possibilites are.

All passengers 18 and over are required to have a valid/unexpired government photograph identity. maximum youthful infants are no longer questioned, and don't have themes on the airport. notwithstanding, in the journey that your daughter is 17, then she in all probability "seems" 18, or on the factor of it. somebody at this age, if no longer preserving a image identity/driving force's license, ought to genuinely take a start certificates. Even then, it quite is as much as the airport and secure practices workers. There are not any ensures that she would be in a position to be boarded. do no longer take any opportunities. Get her a image identity as quickly as achieveable. For destiny purposes, you may to boot prepare for her passport now too. Even commute to Canada and Mexico will now require a valid passport, and those are not getting generated very quickly, except you pay an expedite value.
