There is such an uproar about the Iraq war, is it possible that the Bush administration brought up the illegal immigration problem to divert our attention to something else? Yes, there is a problem with immigration, but it has been going on for years and now, all of a sudden, they are concerned about it, but not doing anything about it. What do you guys and gals think?

"Are you so naive to believe that this administration is concerned enough about middle-class Americans to anything to benefit us without being forced?"
I do not think that I said anything about the administration being concerned with the middle class. That is a whole other topic. The administration does not give a fart about us!

DAR-I never said it wasn't an issue. If you look at my other answers, you will see that I am not for amnesty. I live in New Mexico, where the problem is seen on a daily basis. We have at least one murder a day and, as I stated in another answer, my children were told they could not go to the school they were attending because it was too full. However, there were cars in the parking lot with Mexico plates. Yes, it is a problem, I am just questioning why, all of sudden, the administration is bringing it up. Do you think that I like going to the ER and seeing people lining the walls and my husband, possibly having a heart attack, has to wait. It is total BS!

I can see why you think that. But I believe the focus has turned to Illegals because of the Hugh uproar as of late by the general public. Americans are Tired of the Illegals. Small towns across the US are doing what the Feds in BOTH parties are refusing to do. Illegals have also been making the headlines alot more lately in reguards to Crimes such as Rape, Murder, ect. Illegals capture headlines for crimes that might not otehrwise make national news also.

Well Im not sure its even really possible for us to not think about the Iraq war when our friends and family are being killed there on a daily basis and more will be deployed for sure, but I do agree with you that they are using the immigration issue in a bad way because like you said, its not a new problem. This is something that has been going on for as long as anybody reading this can remember Im sure what hasnt changed either is how passionate people on both sides can be.

I think Bush wants a guest worker program to get slave labor for his business buddies, and feels he has more in common with other world leaders and international business conglomerates than he has with the people he purportedly serves and represents. I don't think he likes the way this discussion is going at all.
If you had children in schools in an area where illegals concentrate, you wouldn't have to ask if this were a 'made up topic'. It is a huge issue and is not only ruining our children's schools but also health care and other social services in this country.
Importing poverty is a very bad idea, which is why our laws don't allow it. Bush and other administrations don't want to enforce the laws. It is us against the government on this one, not us being led by the government.

After 911 it made it clear that our eye on immigration and visas etc. was awfully screwed up. Everyone was already feeling the strain of the excessive influx of Mexicans in cities, towns and schools. But while they were x-raying you at the airport and implementing more tactics to take your personal freedoms away.....they hadn't done didley squat to secure our ports and borders. It isn't just Mexicans comming over that border. It's not just pot and drugs being smuggled in either. People don't mind, for the most part, with abiding by security measures.....but not when they aren't securing one of the most obvious problems. Not when people are getting tax bills for a job, in a state they've never been to, because their SS# was stolen. Just to mention the obvious. It brought to light a severe enforcement problem with our immigration system. Now why they 're dragging their feet on doing something about it is another issue. I just want to pop him in the mouth everytime he says anything about our security because he just gave the world a map as to how to get in here and a massive group of people wanting to keep it that way. He has no friggin clue who or how many illegals are in this country. They are up there in their safe little protected haven and have no clue of whats going on down in the trenches. I'd like to see what Bush would do if it was a popular entry point on his ranch. Alot of governments kids and grand kids are in private schools and aren't experiencing this. They have a totally different view up there.........

That's the problem it has been going on for years with no one watching the "store"...the government is only concerned NOW because people like us are making them take notice...we have had enough...ENFORCE OUR LAWS! Are you so naive to believe that this administration is concerned enough about middle-class Americans to anything to benefit us without being forced?

I don't think Bush and his boys brought this problem up. If anything they have been trying to downplay the whole issue since it started getting ugly. They aren't doing anything about it because they don't want to do anything about it. Keep in mind all this started in '86 when Reagan gave a bunch of illegal immigrants amnesty. The logic since has been "Well they did it once, they will do it again" I don't put Bush up as being smart enough to dream up a decent distraction from the war plus if you haven't noticed it's all he talks about. N Korea tested a nuke and halfway through Bush's speech condemning it he gets onto Iraq. What's that got to do with N Korea?

I think you need to look at what is happening all over instead of focusing on one thing.
We have many BIG problems. It would be nice if there was only one---but that is not the case!
Hello--Benefits are running dry--disable and elderly depend on them. Or don't you want to hear that?
Hello--Hospitals are closing--people will die who need emergency help. Or don't they count?
Hello--schools are in big trouble, worldwide we are on the bottom of the scale now(check Teachers Chats -Oprah has a nice site) and they admit that a mass coming in illegal has caused problems. What they are all lion?
Hello--Crime by some coming in--(9,000 deaths a year-for 5 years caused by illegals) and that is just deaths, What you don't care?
Hello--States had to borrow from other States and programs to cover cost. How long can that go on.?
Hello---do I need to go on? There is plenty more--read a bit.
Bush is part of the problem not all. Hello- I hope you can understand that there can be more than one problem. Bash Bush if you want too-many do. I am not that pleased with him myself. But get real!

Maybe, but I don't think so. I don't agree with Bush on much, but, we do have a few open holes out there. I'm tired of the Mexican bashing though, really tired. These guys are Americans, North Americans. They are our neighbors. We are dependant on each others economy. We are partners. But, the fact is people can cross very easily on both the Mexican and Canadian borders. And, maybe not everyone is a good guy looking for work.

I think this question is VERY ignorant. Immigration has been a problem for a VERY long time. People have been concerned over this issue for a VERY LONG TIME. Longer than you realize. Its very silly to think one issue was brought up to distract you from another issue. The war AND the war going on at our borders are both very BIG PROBLEMS!!

I belive most people did not illegal immigrants, but were scared to voice their opinion, untill the may 1st protest came around, that was really fueled the fires. The main thing to remember is they brought this fire storm on themselves, it would probally went on without a being checked for a long time, but they got greedy.
