i want a digital camera whose
user interface is FAST.

easy to use and logical would be nice too.

also needs to have optical zoom and
be pocket size, no SLRs this time.

fast pix would be good too - as in
no shutter lag.

i had a fuji 4700, it;s great but it uses
batteries way too fast. actually it doesn;t really use them, because after the fuji is 'done', you can put the same batteries in an olympus camera for 200 more shots.

anyway, the point is, i am not super fussy
i have a camera that does it, it just uses batteries too fast.

wle.

Since you excluded DSLRs, then all digicams use a contrast detection AF system. Some are faster than others, but the fastest ones AF in 0.2 to 0.3 seconds in good light. Still, really, too slow.

for a compact camera- I like:
The Fuji F30 (for its incredible high ISO capability and incredibly long battery life- 580 shots)

Canon SD700IS for general quality under any circumstances.
or
The Panasonic FX01/07. 28mm wide angle lens and OIS built in. Not great at higher ISOs.

All three of these are reasonably speedy to startup and AF.

what do you mean by "user interface is FAST" ? less buttons and options ? If yes ..then any compact camera = point &shoot.
