We have never been to Hawaii and hear Kaua'i is more scenic and beautiful, but we have many friends and family coming with us so would Maui be a better choice for tourist reasons? We like outdoor stuff such as hiking etc We are getting married in June. Anybody who really knows Hawaii please respond!

My wife and I have been going to Hawaii almost every other year.
Maui has a lot of fun things to do. It is far more touristy. If you go there, be sure and go to the top of Haleakala and ride the bicycles down. It is a 36 mile ride but you coast all the way down. If you scuba dive, Maui is the tops. go with Lahaina divers.
There is a magazine you pick up at the airport. It is called 101 things to do in (island name here)

You can order the magazine before you go.
We just got back from Kauai this summer. I think it is more of what people think of when they think of Hawaii. My cousin joined us over there and it was his first time. We went to many waterfalls, Be sure and take the Mud buggy/ATV tours. Get a mud buggy, they are way more fun. There is also a kayak adventure down an irrigation channel. We did this on the big island and it was a blast. Stay in Poipu, it is very nice, just 10 min from the airport and a good base for doing stuff. Also, highly recommended is the Zodiac trip around to the Napali coast. Use the one that goes out of the south at port allen. There is a very fun 4 wheel drive tour that goes to where movies were made. They have a video running in the van and it shows the movie and you can compare what was in the movie with the actual area. We got to stop at he coconut palms where Elvis made it famous. If you rent a boat, you can go up the river, look for where all the kayaks are parked and hike about 10 minutes to a large waterfall and a large swimming hole. It is really cool. Ask some one about Kipu falls. Take the road by the cruise ship and make a left , look for the cars parked on the corner and take the trail back to a 20 foot water fall you can go swimming around.. They even put a ladder in to climb back up.

We have been to both islands several times and once attended at wedding at the Hyatt Regency in Kauai. Hands-down, Kauai is our favorite island. Its the most peaceful and scenic. When we want relaxation and to get away from it all, Kauai is the best.

That being said, Maui is a great place too. For the first time visitor to Hawaii, perhaps Maui would be a better choice because there is more to do. For instance, there are more dining choices in Maui than in Kauai.

Either way, you cant go wrong. Congratulations!

How long are you going for? Depending on the length you could consider a split stay I mean really both are beautiful. Maui is a bit more active as to where Kauai is definitely scenic. Many hotels have where if you stay X amount of nights (this various from hotel to hotel) you get one free which can definitely be a nice thing!

In Maui I would highly recommend staying in the Wailea area as opposed to Kaanapali Beach. Wailea is more beautiful in my opinion. A night or two at the Hotel Hana is a suggestion as well. The different hotels of course are going to have different wedding packages and costs depending on the level of the hotel.

It's hard to list all here, however if there is anything I can help you with on your Destination Wedding feel free to email me and I can send you my contact information.

Regardless though I would strongly advice you to book this with a knowledgeable travel agent with not only groups, but Destination Weddings.

Congrats on your Engagement and have a Fantastic time in Hawaii if I don't hear from you!

Get married in Kauai then after a few days take a hopper flight for $30/40 dollars over to Maui if still want to. If you like hiking & scenery, you will love Kauai and it is the perfect backdrop for a wedding. The Hana drive in Maui and the scuba diving can be good too. Also I love hiking on the volcano on the Big Island and it is really beautiful there too. Anyway, you can get hoppers for $30 so have fun!

We got married in Honolulu and honeymooned in Maui, but I've vacationed in Kauai before. After seeing all these islands, I'd choose Maui. Kauai is scenic, but also sort of "rustic", and not as polished and pretty as Maui. If I could make a suggestion, a sunset wedding at the Four Seasons!

it's kind of a toss up. if you like outdoorsy things, you should have plenty to do in Kauai. maui is kind of famous for having the "city" of lahaina, which they call the "little waikiki" and also has the haleakala volcano, which is pretty darn cool, but kauai is smaller, more manageable, less congested (it's common on all the islands to encounter only one road to and from the major areas, you can't get around that, but kauai has more of a country feel than maui), kauai has beautiful waimea canyon, sea caves, plenty of waterfalls, and the only navigable river of any of the islands. don't get me wrong, all the islands are cool, and each slightly different. you really will have a terrific time no matter which you choose so don't stress it too much! (the big island is also great but takes more time to get around).

p.s. don't know about that other answerer, but last time i was there island hopping cost more than 30$--could be they know something i didn't!

Been to both...both have beautiful settings for a wedding. Stayed at hotel on Maui with the most beautiful small church with stained glass windows...if I ever got married again, I would do it there, or anywhere in Hawaii. Plan a day trip and take the Road to Hana...its a must! Lots of waterfalls to see and play in! Congrats & Good Luck!
