I travel in the subway, and recently read an article about the ill-effects of prolonged exposure to the "travel sounds". Ear plugs are quite an eye-sore, and I was wondering if noise-cancellation headphones might be the answer! Ofcourse, I will not be playing any music on my iPod at the same time, 'coz that kinda defeats the purpose...right?

The answer is yes. The earphones don't care whether you are listening to something else or not. The noise cancelling circuitry works, regardless. They've also been recommended for use on airlines.

Smart move!

Noise cancellation headphones are for listening to music while cancelling out ambient noise. I don' think that earplugs are going to be anymore of an eyesore than headphones, anyway.
