Why don't you take Jesus literally when he so clear?

Jn. 6:27 "Do not work for the food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you."

Jn. 6:51 "I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world."

Also, many of His disciples left Him when He told them that they must eat His flesh and drink His blood. They obviously understood Him literally. Why didn't he say, "Wait! I only meant that symbolicallly! I didn't mean that you REALLY have to eat my flesh and drink my blood!"

And don't say "It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail." Nowhere in the Bible is "spirit" used to mean symbolic. You can't say that was when he was clearing it all up. His disciples left AFTER He "supposedly" cleared it all up.

Jn. 6:55 "For my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink."
So, what do you believe?

Also, during the Passover meal, the lamb HAD to be eaten. Jesus is the lamb at the Last Supper. See the connection?

By the way, if you haven't guessed, I'm a Catholic Christian.

To Crono and anyone else: Jn 6: 66:

"As a result of this, many of His disciles returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied Him. Jesus then said to the Twelve, 'Do you also want to leave Me?' Simon Peter answered them, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of everlasting life."
His disciples did leave Him. Jn 6:52, "The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, 'How can this man give us his flesh to eat?'
Jesus said, 'Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise him up on the last day.' "
And down to verse sixty. "Then many of His disciples who were listening said, 'this saying is hard; who can accept it?' "
I don't know about you, but that shows very clearly that they are taking Him literally. When they left Him, then, why didn't he stop them and clarify Himself?
I truly believe Jesus. Why don't you?

Jesus' language become additionally diverse in different sections dealing with the Eucharist no longer basically the final supper. Accepting the Eucharist is meant to be perplexing in accordance to the Gospels (After John 6, '...this could be a perplexing saying...') There are some protestants who have self assurance interior the actual presence. in actuality, it quite is a private challenge for each Christian. no longer each Catholic believes it. Grappling with it however, as Peter did will carry you closer to Christ. He wanted it to be a challenge.

Well, there is spiritual bread and physical bread; and the same
with drink. Jesus told his disciples these words at the last
supper with them. When he said this, however, it was bread
and wine they were partaking.....not Jesus flesh and blood. So
He showed us exactly what He meant by "this is my flesh, and
this is my blood" so we don't have to wonder exactly what He
was talking about. And, that is also what "communion" is today,
the bread and the drink as we remember Him and what He did
for all mankind. What a wonderful Savior.

He is trying to tell everyone, when you truly know him, your desires you have go away and they turn to the desires he has for all mankind to come to Jesus..I have went through many times of no food and not knowing when or how I would get some but it didn't matter cause Jesus made sure that I was feed on his word...I was feed so much on his word the food was not an issue anymore..It didn't matter if I ate I just had to have his love more and more,,when I didn't focus on the way of the world I seen myself receiving things like food and shelter,,I can take it or leave it but one thing I don't ever want to be out of Jesus's arm ever..

I don't think there is a religion out there called Protestant. If there is one, please let me know where.

I'm a born again spirit filled Christian & I believe what the Word reveals.

Drinking real blood was a cult practice when sacrificing to devils.

Jesus said that this (fruitof the vine) is His Blood. This fruit of the vine. Drink this in remembrance of Him. This is His blood that is shed for many for the remission of sins. Aren't you glad that Jesus doesn't expect us to drink real blood? God sent His Only Begotten Son (who was without sin). No other sacrifice could compare. Jesus has already had the victory when He raised from the dead. Victory over the fear of death.

Also, this is sort of a parable. Like many of the things He said.

He's not speaking literally. And where does it say the disciples undestood Him literally or left Him? It says the Jews grumbled, and couldn't undestand what He was saying. They heard, but did not truly hear. That is why Jesus spoke in parables, because He knew that those who were meant to know and understand His words would, but there are those also who have their ears and eyes closed.

I believe in a spiritual presence, but it's a mystery that I'll let God define rather than tie it to human terms.

In conceptual context it is very accurate. Jesus was God incarnate. All of existence is of God therefore is God (or atleast part there of) So anything that you eat dring or breathe is God ergo Jesus.
