The fact that he's friend with your ex might suggest that he either was attracted by you when you were "busy", and now he'd like to seize his chance even if he has a girlfriend( a breakaway is not smth. new), or that he is tormented on the one side by the temptation of being with you because he likes you and on the other side by the fact which persists in his mind that you are the " private property" of his friend(and he feels like cheating this one). Of course, there also might be a possibility of him trying to revenge his friend if their friendship is tight and you made your ex suffer and wanting to get a revenge
