That is untrue. Going to the gym is a very good way to stay fit and increase bone density and promote overall good health.
What makes some men short when they go to the gym is using steroids or synthetic testosterone. The testosterone and steroids cause the growth plates in your bones to close up much quicker than normal- which means you will be shorter. Trust me, I just went over this in my Human Biology class.
I would say that what those people are telling you are old wives tales.

I'm no doctor but I dought that going to the gym has anything to do with your height. I was born short and I have only been to the gym about 5 times in my life.

I THINK I understand what you're saying.....I stress the word "think".
Are they telling him that, due to his age and developmental stage in life,he is in danger of building muscle that would stunt his bone growth?
Unless he's power lifting and/or taking steroids he should be OK.
They might just be concerned that he's engaging in a weight training program that his body isn't yet ready for.
The gym,if it's a reputable facility and not a clip-joint,should be more than happy to guide him towards a program appropriate for his age and physical abilities.

Its not true. Physical activity actually promotes healthy bones and growth. Its better for teens to exersize while growing. If hes short even if he doesn't go to the gym, its genetics. Whoever told you that lie is a dumb@ss.

General exercise is ok, treadmill etc but apparently weight training can stunt growth. While this might be ok if your son's already 6 foot, y'might wanna tell him to lay off the weights until he's near the end of his growing ages.

No it does not hurt how tall he will be
However if he is in a gym lifting he needs to have someone guide him on proper lifts and hows not to hurt his muscles.
I belief if he is working out now he will be healthy from years to com
Good luck to him

Going to the gym has nothing to do with height. Height comes from your genes. If he injured himself in someway that caused his growth plates to malfunction, then it might stunt his growth. However, barring any strange events, going to the gym will only do him good.

Well yes that's true. Then again lets say he weighs 150lbs and he's trying to pick up 20-55lbs. I Guess its o.k. Any higher than that yes they could stay short.
