It depends on the crime. If your run in involved you robbing someone, odds are you won't get a job at a bank. If it is a DUI you might not be able to work as a delivery or bus driver. If it is over an unpaid traffic ticket or something like that it would not go against you. I guess if the job doesn't fit the crime then nothing to worry over. And if it does you can always try politics?

Well it greatly depends on the job your seeking. For example a DUI; could prevent you from obtaining a job that required driving for travel; or renting a car from a rental agency such as Hertz, Avis, and others. Drugs; would prevent a person from holding a executive board or chairman positions. Having thief on your record, could prevent you from holding a position as CFO (Chief Fiance Officers); or other position in which you are in charge of funds. Having being arrested as a pedophile; will prevent you from being in a position where children are involved. Those are the most common reasons a person might be curtail from holding or obtaining a position in the work force.

having a "run in" with the police does not stop you getting a good job, because just a little warning or something will not go on your criminal record. However if you get arrested for something (even minor like drink driving) will go on your record and if the company that you want to work for do a criminal background check they will see this arrest on your record and wont hire you because of security reasons and it looks bad.

It all depends what you mean by 'run in'. If you are ever having a background check done all your past wrongs will surface. Having a bad relationship with police makes it appear that you defy authority and have a lack of respect, not traits employers are looking for.

Being arrested, depending on the severity, can be a judge of how well you may perform, the risks involved in hiring you, and how responsible of a person you are.
Honestly, if you worked at a jewelry shop would you hire someone who was convicted of burglary on 4 different occasions?

If you were arrested, and then found guilty in a Court, they you have a criminal record. Such records can prevent you from getting jobs depending on the nature of the Crime you Committed.

Criminal charges look bad no matter what they are. It is better to just stay out of the criminal justice system. I know someone who was arrested for domestic battery when he didnt do it and it is haunting him for the rest of his life.

Arrest record counts against you, no matter what the outcome.
There should be someway to appeal as this is unfair.
