...despite the fact that people who disagreed with you answered your question more directly and often with more thought? This is especially true of those questions aimed at "Evolutionists!" or "Atheists!" - why would you therefore reward someone who could not answer your question (especially, as is often the case, the answerer is merely insulting)? I'm always giving Best Answer to theists who answer my questions well - check 'em.

It's not about point-scoring. It's about whether you have the capacity to acknowledge the value of the opinion of someone whose views you do not share, and whether or not you can claim to come here to discover anything or whether you only want to have your ideas reinforced.

Question applies to non-theists too, and it would be helpful to know your religious affiliation when answering.

Yes, if the person's answer were intelligent and thought-provoking.
I am a non-denominational Christian.

I'm not a theist..... but if you turn the question around, I've asked a few questions of theists and I think at least once or twice I've picked as best an answer that doesn't agree with my views. I recall specifically a question about prayer and whether or not praying directly effects and influences the decisions that God makes.

Keep in mind I've currently only asked 17 questions and only about half were religion related, so that's why I've only chosen 1 or 2 theist answers as best.

Deist/and or discordian

I only listen to the good answers. Some of the bible waivers are really deserving of all the invective. Nothing worse that a fool with a bible.

Then again, I've read things from atheists that would get them smacked if they had the gall to take that attitude with me in person, so maybe there is something worse than a fool with a bible, one who doesn' t even have a bible.

Hail Eris! All Hail Discordia!

I believe in God but I do not believe in the Bible so I don't know what religious affiliation I belong to. I'd rather not be labeled as anything. Anyway, I have given the best answer to a devout Christian and it was because his answer was honest, informative, and respectful. Sadly there are plenty of people that will discount good answers simply because they're not of the same faith. You see it all the time on here.

I've only asked one question, but it had nothing to do with my faith, and I resolved it through voting.

I would like to think that I would choose what I really believe is the best answer as the best answer (Go figure!) regardless of the answerer's faith, political affiliation, race, etc. Hmmmm. Actually, I just might go with the avatar with the snazziest hair... or lack thereof!

Also the Christian who did anser didnt give me any information as well.

Affiliation: atheist...

I have given best answers to Christians and Jews and Republicans, even though their beliefs differ from mine. Perhaps not as often as I should, but I do...

In voting, I've given best answer votes to Creationist answers. It's rare, but if they use unweaseled facts and reasoning (I have actually seen it happen), they can get my "best answer" pick in a sea of vitriol.

Depends on if they are just arguing or if they give well thought out replies.
