it's all about Phi. The Divine proportion. From this we get fractals. Hence you have 5 fingers, 5 toes. Also 2 arms, 2 legs and a torso (5). You have 2 eyes, 2 ears and a nose (5). Most leaves have 5 petals that's why everything in your life is bananas.

Nature, look at flowers - they almost always have an odd number of petals. Nature likes odd numbers, why do you think the four-leaf clover is so elusive? There is a good scientific reason for this but I've forgotten it!

Re-post this question in the science section and maybe you will get the answer you've been looking for!

Are they? I usually think the bunches are too big and so just rip off however many bananas I want - which admittedly is usually 3. So maybe you're right...

More importantly, what on earth made you feel the need to ask this question, and even more importantly why did I feel the need to answer it? I really need to go to bed.....

They tear one off each bunch to use as a sacrifice to the tarantula Gods, so that nobody is harmed in the harvest, and the bananas are tarantula-egg free.
