Even when they hurt bad I keep doing it. I'll stop, but then I'll start thinking about something else and I'll start picking at my hands and fingers again without knowing it. It makes me so frusterated.

i do the same thing...my hands right now hurt and are red and some spots are bleeding..i am ashamed after i do it because my hands look horrible...i do it mostly when i am stressed to the max....

what you need to do it to have your mind concentrate on something else...when you start to pick, or even notice when you are, re-direct yourself to something else...doesnt matter what it is, but you are moving yourself away from the one thing that you dont want to do...you may do this 10 times in one hour because its a habit and habits are hard to break...it takes time and effort from you...

i wish you luck because i still battle with that...sometimes i dont even realize that i am doing it....

Before you go to bed at night, put some hand cream on. A lot. Do this every night and they will heal. You keep picking at it because there is something there to pick at. Once they heal, you have to keep stopping yourself from doing it. It takes 30 days to break a bad habit. Then no more problem.

Yes this is a bad habit and they are hard to break, I agree with what's said above keep them moisturized and well manicured. You will begin to notice more when you start to do it because you won't want to mess up your nice looking hands, then maybe you'll start to take notice when you are doing it and make a conscious effort to try; to break the habit. Good Luck!

If you are chewing on them, then I suggest you go see your doctor and get tested for hepatitis. And also see a Psychologist and get to root of the problem and stop picking at your fingers and hands. It not healthy. God speed on recovery.

neurogenic excoriations, I recommend people to wear cotton gloves all the time even to bed since you do this in sleep too, if that does not help then see a doctor to consider things like SSRI's etc, good luck
