Ok, so i was just going to ask how much (%) i should tip my hair dresser, she just moved salons and now she rents a chair and is making much more money.... however, i read previous questions/answers, and it looks like 15-20%

Now i feel cheap. Last time is saw her, i was in the salon for 4 yrs (only a 2 hr job) she was multi-tasking clients which ate up my day... she did a great job, but i only tipped her just over 10%. On $140 i have her $155.

Do you think she's a wee bit pissed, or not worry about and tip her 20% next time? That just seems excessive to me since she charges her own rates or am i just cheap? She knows i'm looking for a better career... does that get taken into consideration?

hello! i am a hairdresser and i think that you tipped well! she is renting a booth and if she is charging all her clients that prices that she is charging you then don't worry, hun she is making plenty of money! and yes if she has a decent bone in her body she would take your situation into consideration!

I think you gave a proper tip based on the fact that you weren't her only client at the time (I HATE that; I understand finishing up one client and starting on me, but I've had people work on four people at once. NO).

I always tip twenty percent but I get incredible personalized service. My hairdresser has an assistant, so two people help me, just me, when I'm there.

You did fine with your tip, and the next time you go, tip according to the service that you receive that day.

By the way, when I was off work for a short time, I tipped my hairdresser less than usual and I KNOW she understood, so if she knows that you're underemployed, she'll understand.

that is a had question to answer. I personally hate tipping ,but you have to and I do. But I never know what is right. For the kids when I get their hair cut i'll tip a dollar or two, but that is a $10-15 cut. For myself at a salon I don't know. I tip about $5.00 across the board(weither its a cut or cut/style/ or perm) I'm sure they all hate me. But I'm not rich so....

you're supposed to tip hairdressers?
jk

i found a few polls online and everyone seems agreeable with 10%. any more seems like they did an excellent job. I personally give $5 per service, like a shampoo, cut & style they'd get a tip of 15.

I always tip 20%, but I get a great cut and great service so I feel it's worth it. In the case you described, you weren't getting individual service and it cost you quite a bit in terms of time; for a service level like that, 10% seems adequate.

I wouldn't feel cheap, as you said she does a good job and you like her. Don't worry next time tip her 15 %, I think 20% is too steep.

Your tip seems fine to me. I wouldn't worry about changing your tip pattern. If you really feel bad about it, tip her extra closer towards the holidays instead of your next visit.

$15 tip sounds pretty fair. Its not like you were the only one she was working on. She is expensive.

She should appreciate any tip you give her. I usually tip my hairdresser $5 each time i see her.
