Around September & October. I like mid to late April & early May the best for weather though (in the fall).

NOW! SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER and part of NOVEMBER! Although springtime means nothing in New Zealand... weve had some warmer days in Winter. The weather here is very unpredictable is could be sunny one minute and stormy the next. The best bet is to come in Dec which isnt that warm and may feel like spring to tourists.

Right now! It's very changeable. Warm and then cold, 4 seasons in one day! Our official line is Spring Sept 1- Nov 30, Summer Dec 1- Feb 28. AUTUMN (not fall) March 1- May 30 and Winter June 1- August 31. In theory that is.

As an isolated island group with an oceanic climate and a latitudinal variation of 33 S to 48S there is a great variety of climates, from subtropical to cool temperate and alpine. Some parts of the country have two seasons, warm October-April and cold May-October.

But the weather knows no boundaries and its not that unusual to get a 6C (42F) day in the middle of summer and a 20C (60F) in winter no matter where you are but cold in summer is more common than warm in winter. Sometimes summer weather doesn't really start until just after Christmas and sometimes May is not that cold. Sometimes April still seems like summer and October like winter, as in this afternoon in Wellington, this morning it was 18C and now its about 11C cos we are getting a Southerly off the Southern Ocean (and indirectly Antarctica).

1st of September is the official start of Spring in New Zealand.
I don't recommend travelling to NZ then..the weather is unpredictable and very wet.

The best weather is generally from February to April..that's assuming you like hot sunny days.
