I would just suggest that you find out what she is passionate about, no matter what it is (With reason) and help her do it or get involved in it. When we do what we are passionate about it makes us feel alive. Maybe she wants to play drums or study a particular subject or go to a certain place. Don't go by what you want for her but rather find out what she really loves and help her do it. I know that my love for music (Playing guitar/singing) has helped me overcome years of shyness because the my desire for being involved with music was greater than my fears.
Just a thought,
Steve

I'm a year younger than your daughter and I too can have a low self esteem on some days.
I think the best way is to just encourage her and really mean it. Give her advice when she needs it & help her remember how much she is worth.

Take a good look at her and ask yourself why she has low self-esteem.
Is she over-weight? Is she trendy? Is she attractive? Is she getting positive reinforcement from her parents? Does she have a lot of friends? Is her family poor?
If the answer to any one of these questions and many more can lead to her low self-esteem.
You need to talk to her, not to a bunch of strangers who don't know her.

Try to involve her in activites. You should try some activities that involve a lot of people, go along with her and once she gets used to being around a lot of people, let her take control.

I would read books, ask counselors and spend some time each week dealing with it!
What a wonderful mom you are for wanting to do something about this... I know most moms would... thats why moms are great!
and here is an article for you.
