Alright I'm willing to admitt something as a Christian creationist. The argument that "if we evolved from monkeys why are there still monkeys?" is complete foolishness, borders hilarity, and represents a complete lack of understanding of the theory of evolution.
That being said can anyone find humor in this argument?
"The shape of the [two-beamed cross] had it origin in ancient Chaldea, and was used as the symbol of the god Tammuz (being in the shape of the mystic Tau, the initial of his name) in that country and in adjacent lands, including Egypt. By the middle of the 3rd century A.D. the churches had either departed from, or travestied, certain doctrines of the Christian faith. In order to increase the prestige of the apostate ecclesiastical system, pagans were received into the churches apart from regeneration by faith, and were permitted largely to retain their pagan signs and symbols.

Hence the Tau or T, in its most frequent form, with the cross-piece lowered, was adopted to stand for the cross of Christ."

It's quite a bit of a stretch to think that the symbol of the cross was somehow stolen when it's so obvious where it came from (the whole Jesus dying on a cross thing / Roman method of painful execution).
All the more reason never to take anyone on Y!A seriously.

Kimberli: What a great question. We wear crosses to signify how we now view it as a simbol for life. Using the cross as a symbol was a kind of shock to the Romans because it was a symbol of death. Through the death and ressurection of Jesus Christ we find life.
Recap: Cross = symbol of life in defiance of death

Ha ha! Exactly! Although, I am guilty of asking the first question...oops. I guess I presumed because of my faith that an ape and a monkey were the same in the whole scheme of things. Although I have taken evolution. And understand it to be a theory nothing more. The question is rhetorical and most ask it to make a point or gather fellow humans who agree with the point. Which is exactly why people should not get so worked up about it. Life is too short, then we die or go to heaven. God bless.

Actually, this is a true statement. At the time of Jesus death, crucifixtion was usually performed on an "X" shaped cross. the christian halo - stolen from pagans as the sign of the Sun. The Christmas holiday - stolen from pagans that celebrated the winter solstice on Dec 25th.... This is how the church succeeded in bringing so many converts at that time...they used familiar symbols.
So, I find no humor, only truth in that statement. But I agree with the hilarity of monkeys still being present....

The cross was first used to hold up prisoners the for execution, once Jesus was crusified on it they used it as the main symbol for christianity. I dont see how talking about it's orgin has anything to do or proves anything against christianity.

Sure, they stole the cross. They also stole the 'halo'... its an artifact of Sol Invictus, the Roman sun god.

Ok,since you admit that's why the cross is used in Christian symbolism, why do Christians wear them?I mean,I would rather wear something that stood for his life, not his death.I mean,I'm morbid, but not that morbid. Why don't they wear little tombs with the stones rolled back or something? That signifies his Resurrection, not his death.I know, you don't agree. No one ever does...
