I adopted a dog two days ago.Today i noticed that when i turned him out to run and get some exercise he was squating every 3-4 minutes or so like he had to have a bowel movement, with no results.I know the obvious thing to do would be to call a vet,but the vet is out.Is there anything i can do?A home remedy that i could possibly do to open his bowels up and help him have a bowel movement?Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have a chihuahua & the vet has told us to give him a little milk when he can't go. maybe put it on his dogfood or just give him a little in a suacer.

Sounds like he could have roundworms. They will make some dogs think they have to go when they don't. Watch him carefully until you can get to the vet. If he gets worse, call the vet's emergency number because it could be something more serious.

Many puppies have roundworms, hookworms and other parasites. But without seeing your dog, I couldn't know what is wrong, or give you a good idea of what to do. Get him to the vet and checked out. It is much easier to care for a healthy puppy.

if it is an older dog, he is going through anxiety. being in a new place etc is hard on an older dog, it can wait but you need to see the vet asap tomorrow. dogs go through this a lot when there is a big change. if it is a pup, you might want to get help now

Just my opinion, but you shouldn't TRY anything until the Vet sees him. There could be a blockage of some sort, he could have a parasite infestation or it could truly be constipation....if you go trying a whole lot of "ideas" you could very well damage something in the process

i'm not sure where you got your dog, but sometimes i think they are nervous w/ their new surroundings or maybe the food he was eating made his stomach upset. i know when i adopted my dog ( he was a pup) he had diarria & had the same thing like he had to go but couldn't. i'd watch him for the next couple days & if it keeps up, then get back in touch w/ the vet.

I give my dog some ground hamburger meat and rice when it seems like they are constipated or sick. This home remedy usually works for me.
