Well, If you want my personal opinoin, I think it depends on the girl. I started dying my hair when I was 12, and I dont regret that. some people may say I was too young, but a by body 'avanced' a lot during my 12th year. I really thing there isn't much of a difference between dying and highlighting. But when you do start dying your hair, you should give it about a two weeks break between dyes, or your hair will fry.

I started dying my hair at 12 years old. I'm 22 now and I haven't seen my natural hair color in 10 years. My mom gave me permission to dye my hair and took me to a salon to have it done. I've never dyed it myself and would recommend going to a professional anytime someone plans on changing their hair color. They will fix it for free(at least most will) if they screw up so no worries about orange hair that wasn't supposed to be that color and they are trained, licensed professionals in hair color.

I feel like it's ok to let a girl dye their hair when they hit their teens or before that if they show enough responsibility to take care of the color. It's harder to care for because of the chemical damage and if dyed too often can be really bad for your hair.

I don't think anyone young should dye their hair. It's beautiful when they are young. When they are around maybe 15 or so, I understand they think they look better with different colored hair, and soemtimes, they do. But before you go dying your hair, why don't you look at other people's perspective. Do they like your hair? Why do you want to dye it?
Oh, by the way... I made a BIG mistake dying my hair, everytime. Once, I dyed it burgandy, another, I dyed it blonde, and then I dyed it black. All of them looked horrible on me! They were not my colors. The blonde wasn't my color mainly because it was actually kind of orange! Lol.

I concur with "a1dermommy"
it doesn't matter it's hair it's not like it's a tattoo or a peircing

also they make wash out color and permanent dyes

most natural hair colors look good regardless of who wears them though if it is too different people will be able to tell it was dyed
such as if a blond or light brunette dyed their hair black. the black would look out of place compared to there skin complection.
people that are naturally black haired have a slightly darker complection compared to natural brunettes and natural blonds of the same racial background. if you want to go for a contrast between the skin complection and the hair color, the hair should be lighter than your skin complection. if the hair is darker than your skin complection then the skin will appear pale in contrast. highlights are good so long as they are lighter than your existing hair color.

some artificial colors would also look good depending on the shade and hue of the color.
also depends on what your natural hair color was before hand
pink would go well for a blond, strawberry blond, or a red head based on thier complection. while a darker color such as red blue or purple would go well for brunette or black hair
greys or white coloring can go well with almost any completion since they are either neutral or are lighter than your completion.

some girls would look quite cute with light pink or light blue hair or highlight(s).

it can also depend on what sort of outfit you intend to wear.

Whenever they want to (provided they or their parents can afford it). I don't see the point in young kids getting subtle highlights or such, but if a 10-year-old wants a blue streak in their hair, I see nothing wrong with that. I've seen little kids with died hair that looked very cute, particularly if they get brightly colored streaks. Just so long as they're not trying to look "sexy" or such, I don't think it does any harm. If it damages their hair, so what? It'll grow out anyway.

Personally young girls shouldn't dye their hair until you get gray. But if you do start with a highlight to enhance your natural beauty of your hair. Any age doesn't matter maybe in your teens. Good luck, I hope you like it. But ask your mom's opinion first?

Never. It is expensive to keep up with. Changing the color of your hair will damages your hair and dry it out. Highlights are noticibly un-natural and tacky.

If you're looking at going purple or some other out-there color like green, around 15 is good but not too long. I don't think people under 15 should anytime.
