I have the same issue. I started taking benadryl to go to sleep. And now I can't sleep without them. I am trying a new thing tho. There is a lady name Linda Bassett she does relaxation tapes. I download one of them and I am listen to it and try to focus on her speaking. I am now taking 2 benadryl and I am gradualling coming down from 4....I suggest you try this it is working for me. Also, If this fails you see a doctor they can prescribe a night time medication for you.

This seems to be a common problem in our busy world.
The following will help you: Think about "Things That Will Help Make You Feel Good!" Think about them one at a time before going on to the next one. It makes you feel good, then it's easier to relax and fall asleep(especially the thought at the end #45).
1. Falling in love.
2. Laughing so hard your face hurts.
3. A hot shower.
4. No lines at the supermarket.
5. A special glance.
6. Getting a card or letter in the mail
7. Taking a drive on a pretty road.
8. Hearing your favorite song on the radio.!
9. Lying in bed listening to the rain outside.
10. Hot towels fresh out of the dryer.
11. Chocolate milkshake (vanilla or strawberry).
12. A bubble bath.
13. Giggling
14. A good conversation.
15. The beach
16. Finding a 20 dollar bill in your coat from last winter.
17. Laughing at yourself.
18. Looking into someones eyes and knowing that they Love you
19. Midnight phone calls that last for hours.
20. Running through sprinklers.
21. Laughing for absolutely no reason at all.
22. Having someone tell you that you're beautiful.
23. Laughing at an inside joke
24. Friends.
25. Accidentally overhearing someone say something nice about you.
26. Waking up and realizing you still have a few hours left to sleep.
27. Your first kiss (either the very first or with a new partner).
28. Making new friends or spending time with old ones.
29 Playing with a new puppy or kitten.
30. Having someone play with your hair.
31. Sweet dreams.
32. Hot chocolate.
33. Road trips with friends.
34. Swinging on swings.
35. Making eye contact with a cute stranger.
36. Making chocolate chip cookies.
37. Having your friends send you homemade cookies.
38. Holding hands with someone you care about.
39. Running into an old friend and realizing that some things (good or bad) never change.
40 Watching the expression on someone's face as they open a much desired present from you.
41. Watching the sunrise.
42. Getting out of bed every morning and being grateful for another beautiful day.
43. Knowing that somebody misses you.
44. Getting a hug from someone you care about deeply.
45. Knowing you've done the right thing, no matter what other people think.

Go to bed only when you're tired. Don't eat or nap before going to sleep.

Before sleeping, take a warm shower and read/watch a movie. Then when you go to bed, listen to music (it helps me, at least) and put a warm wet rag on your forehead and eyes. It's so relaxing and always works for me!

If you're lying in bed stressed out, make a list of everything you are worried about and also everything you need to remember to do the next day. This rids any bad thoughts and it'll help you sleep.

Do you think your mind is playing tricks on you? It you don't take the pill, your mind thinks, "Without the pill, I won't sleep." Maybe make yourself believe that you can do it without the pill.

Good luck!

That's a lot of Benadryl every night. Take two for a few nights, then one. Find a better substitute to make you sleepy. If you have unresolved things on your mind, try to resolve them. Read a boring book when you go to bed--this truly works--and don't stress over not going to sleep.

How should I take diphenhydramine?

Use exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Cold or allergy medicine is usually taken only for a short time until your symptoms clear up.
Do not give this medication to a child younger than 2 years old. Always ask a doctor before giving a cough or cold medicine to a child. Death can occur from the misuse of cough and cold medicines in very young children.
Measure liquid medicine with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
For motion sickness, take diphenhydramine 30 minutes before you will be in a situation that causes you motion sickness (such as a long car ride, airplane or boat travel, amusement park rides, etc). Continue taking diphenhydramine with meals and at bedtime for the rest of the time you will be in a motion-sickness situation.
As a sleep aid, take diphenhydramine within 30 minutes before bedtime.
Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 7 days of treatment, or if you have a fever with a headache, cough, or skin rash.
This medication can affect the results of allergy skin tests. Tell any doctor who treats you that you are using diphenhydramine.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

I have always had sleeping problems and bouts of insomnia. my normal sleep pattern would be to sleep and wake almost every hour on the dot. It has improved a bit since i started going to bed early. i used to go to bed between 12-1.30, and stay awake for hours. now i try to go to bed between 10.30 and 11/11.30 i know it seems really early if your not used to that, but really you end up feeling so much better. i have found that for some reason in going to bed early i fall asleep quicker then i tend to naturally at about 8am and i feel great. i also dont seem to wake up so often in the night! I have now fallen in love with early nights, give it a try! oh and also dont eat for a few hours before bed and no drinks with caffiene in them. hope things improve! x

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.
