People blame restaurants and all the fast food chains for the increase rate in obesity. People who dig ditches for a living need to eat lots, people who sit at on office clearly don't.

Why can't people be accountable for their actions? Eat half of their dinners, and don't supersize your meals. What has happened to self control?

See, I don't so much think it's the fast food business's fault. It's just that they're slimy. They prey on peoples' weaknesses.

People should be accountable for their actions. However, McDonald's should be accountable for THEIR actions as well. Advertising extremely fatty, basically dangerous foods to children using cartoon characters and clowns to draw them in and giving away toy prizes with every 2,000 calorie meal is wicked. Additionally, not letting the public in on what their food consists of is unfair.

Sure, we all know that fast food is unhealthy. And we know if we eat it at all, it should be a minimal part of our diet. But the ever-present, massive-advertising-expenditure, poisonous crap they push needs to be set back a notch. Their junk food DOES contribute to the obesity rate, individual responsibility or not. And just like every other business in this country, they DO have a responsibility to their customers.

People tend to lay blame anywhere but where it belongs; with themselves. Many people were raised by their parents to eat everything on their plates because those parents grew up in a time when nothing was wasted and many people and families did not always have enough to eat.

It saddens me that people frequent the "All-you-can-eat" establishments and proceed to eat an allotment of calories that would sustain an average peson for a week. It seems that many people still have the fear that food will not be there for them in the future, so they overeat now. What people fail to realize is that any food the body cannot use at the time is indeed wasted - as much so as if it was thrown in the garbage.

Restaurants don't need to sell Supersized anything. Americans put way too much on the plate. Other people are aghast, Asians and Europeans, at the proportions. And some places suggest it is very wasteful NOT to clean your plate. It is. We should stop this nonsense. Yes, Americans eat it.. but keep in mind, eating habits are formed very early. You can't expect a 9 year old boy to Not eat his Big Mac, large fries, and large shake. And apple pie. He will. And the roots of his obesity will be planted. Let's stop shoving crap down each others throats for profit!!!!

The plain and simple answer is that people tend to eat more if more is put in front of them. You are right though - people need to exercise more self control and do more physical exercise. The leading cause of obesity is not super size, but TV, PCs, video games, and other couch potato distractions.

most people loose their self control ,over food ,especially junk ! smart eating habits begin at home so next time someone try's to sue a fast food chain -the investigation should begin at home and then we can all see who's really to blame !! HUH !!

Because it's easier to indulge yourself by eating everything that is served to you than to practice self-control. I think some have the philosophy "I'm paying for it so therefore I must eat it all". But you can't generalize, presume, or take for granted that everyone lacks self-control.
