Me's answer is correct.

Note, however, that if you tell the creditor over the phone not to call again, they tend to forget. If you file a complaint, they simply say you never told them.

Send the collection agent a "cease and desist" letter, and inform him not to contact you at work or home. Send it by certified mail/return receipt.

If they contact you again, you just won the lottery! File a lawsuit and win $1000!

Yes, they can call you at work. But you can tell them not to do it anymore and they have to stop. Also, if they call you several times a day it is harassment and not legal. Go on line to Google and just type in bill collectors. Several sites should come up that spell out what they can and cannot do and what your rights are.

Studly is not entirely correct. Once you instruct them not to contact you, they can still contact you to inform you of actions they have taken to collect (such as filing a lawsuit). Since you have left them with no other legal options, they probably will sue you as soon as they receive the 'cease and desist' letter.

Only one a week if the leave a message. They can not give detail information. The can not harass you at work or talk to your boss about your debt.
