Okay, so you're with your friends for a night listening to music, possibly dancing. Why does everyone like it so much?
Me, I'm not wasting my money to go somewhere for a night, to listen to music I cannot stand, and watch people.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE to get all dresses up and be pretty (I'm a TOTAL girlie girl) and I LOVE music, dancing and begin with my friends but high school dances are just a whole bunch of DRAMA!!! and not wroth all that time and money

People in general live to be social. Homecoming is just another way for people to get together. It is just the same as say, going dancing with your friends or going to a movie. People go out for the social experience. I'm not even sure half of the people who go to homecoming even know what "homecoming" means.

I sort of agree with you. I mean, music and dancing is a lot of fun. But the whole Homecoming thing is a waste of money on dresses, nails, hair, etc. I say save the money and use it for Prom. Prom is the REALLY big event of the year, right?

Because if you don't go, it's like being Cinderella and not going to the ball. You mainly go for the sake of going, and to make your parents happy that they don't have a loser child. It's just a bit of a cultural norm.

actually people go to the afterparties and feel like it's a priority to go to the dance first and then get drunk and dance some more afterwards.
