A chalupa, is a kind of tostada platter in Mexican cuisine. These are a specialty of south-central regions of Mexico, such as the states of Guerrero and Oaxaca. They are made by pressing a thin layer of masa dough around the outside of a small mold and then deep frying it to produce a crisp shallow corn cup. They are typically filled with shredded pork meat, a slice of onion, and a piece of chipotle pepper. An Americanized form is also widely sold in Taco Bell and McDonald's restaurants. This version more closely resembles American-style tacos and are filled with ground beef, onion and sour cream.

Chalupa, in Mexican dialect, also refers to small boats that function as water taxis or gondolas, such as those seen at the "floating gardens" of Xochimilco south of Mexico City. Chalupa boats may be rowed, poled or motorized, the common characteristics are shallow draft and benches or seats for 6 to 12 passengers.

It's just amazing that the first 4 Answerers obviously ignored your identifying yourself as European, and writing of Taco Bell as if you would know of it. Americans are just so blockheaded and arrogant and think that the rest of the world revolves around them (no wonder they have so many problems in Iraq and elsewhere).

Anyway, the Answerers following the first four should give you a reasonable idea about chalupas, which are spicy and delicious and often served from street vendors. In fact almost all Mexican cuisine is spicy wonderful.

As for brownies, I have seen them sold at French patisseries and also in Spain. One of the few American sweets and desserts that
have become somewhat international. In which European country do you live?

I am Mexican an a chalupa is made out of corn (like a tortilla) only it is thicker, and all the edges are pinched (in order to keep the ingredients inside). It is covered first with a black bean layer, then some lettuce, cheese, onion and salsa.

Where are you? Weren't you the one who ask about brownies? A chalupa is a Mexican dish made from ground beef and it's inside a very bread-like tortilla folded in half. There are toppings too like tomatoes, grated cheese , shredded lettuce, sour cream...

chalupa

[chah-LOO-pah] Spanish for "boat" or "launch," a chalupa is a corn tortilla dough formed into a small boat shape and fried until crisp. It's then usually filled with shredded beef, pork or chicken, vegetables, cheese or a combination of these, and served as an appetizer.

chalupa is a hispanic word that means "fatty"
the word has been coined by the "Taco Bell" restaurant chain. they serve a chalupa as a warm, pillowy flatbread with meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream (also comes in other varieties with a choice of fillings).

chalupa refers to the shell the stuffing is held in. It is made from flour not corn. Just a Navajo Fry bread shaped and quick fried. Fold and fill with favorite fillings.

Same thing as every other Mexican or Tex-Mex dish. Tortilla, meat, beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese. The tortilla in this case is corn, flat, and deep-fried with all the other stuff piled on top.

Chalupas were around LONG before the advent of Taco Bell.

You get them at Taco Bell, they invented them. It is like a taco only with flatbread instead of a taco shell. Didn't see the commercial? DROP THE CHALUPA!!! LOL.

Well, it is a HUGE taco. The bread is soft and good. It's actually my favorite Mexican food besides quesidillias. It's topped with tomatos (or as I call 'em: MATERS), cheese, lettuce, beef, and sour cream. Hope this helps and good luck with this question and everything you do!
