What do you think of the idea of building military bases all along our Canadian and Mexican borders to protect American sovreignty? It would probably work better than just a wall.

...I seem to have been missunderstood as to the nature of such bases. It is not for the purpose of creating a police state. Nor is it meant to entirely cut off movement between nations. These bases would serve a dual purpose. 1) Provides a wide variety of terrain to train in and 2) will allow government to more cost affectively maintain our borders. It is cost affective in that military units would simply be transferred to these newly created bases and the old ones closed down.
As to you Mr/Ms Canadian...I am perfectly sane...

So you are talking about transforming the world's longest undefended border, the one between Canada and the US, into a no-man's land save for some specific authorized corridors?

You sir are completely off of your rocker. I am Canadian, and I know damned well that if something like this gets done, not only Canadian economy is going to take a plunge, but it's going to shatter what's left of the US economy as well. A very large portion of US exports come north, so a militarized border, damaging trade as it is known to, would hurt both our countries more so than helping them.

And besides, US sovereignty is not at risk. But we all know our history, or at least I dare hope we do. The United States have tried to invade Canada before. Now, building bases along the border will make us feel threatened and we're going to call in our friends from abroad. Granted, the US have deciding votes within NATO and the UN, but other countries, even your allies, can turn their backs against you, make no mistake.

And from a security standpoint, militarizing the Canadian borders will do a whole lot of sweet nothing to prevent terrorists from crossing in either direction. All the soldiers in the world couldn't have prevented the London bombings, or 9/11, or the Bali bombings.

We are not at war with Mexico or Canada, And our sovereignty is fully intact. If they really wanted to stop people from crossing any of American borders they could. Believe this or not there are reasons why those two countries are able to cross American borders like they do. For reason that 90% of Americans have no concept as to why..

Cost wise it would be prohibitive. We need to develop a large trap that will entrap people without harming them, something like a critter trap. Each day, a truck will go by and pick up those entrapped. Rather than send them back, we can sell the women to chinese farmers who are having an impossible task of finding wives. The guys we can sell to Hugo Chavez, with all the wealth he throws around, surely he needs gardners or landscapers, or practice fodder.

Tell me what is the fear you have about Canada.Canada and the United States have been military allies for years. They are in NATO and NORAD together and both have similar lifestyles and economies. Maybe you should worry more about the enemies within the United States instead of importing them .

What you'd get from that idea is a bunch of Mexicans working at military bases.

It would be a good idea now and for the future. As long as there are liberals ready to surrender we will always need to defend our borders.

that is just what your country needs, try to isolate yourselves even more. just build a big concrete wall around your country already we are getting tired of hearing about it.
