I've had braces for four years, and I just got them off this week. Now I have a retainer, which I was told to wear 24/7. Do I really have to wear it ALL day long? I don't really want to wear it to school, so I've been putting it in after school in the late afternoon and then taking it off the next morning. Is this bad?

Do as the dentist says my friend didn't follow her dentist directions and her teeth went back rather quickly to how they were before the braces. I think that you only have to were the retainer 24/7 for a short bit. Then the dentist will switch it to just at night which is nice. You don't want you teeth to go back. My friend end up having to get braces gain.

You need to wear your retainer 24/7 for at least 6 months after you get your braces off. I would recommend wearing it 24/7 for one year. After one year, I would then switch to only wearing it at nights. I wore my retainer only at night and as a result I have lost some of the work that the orthodontist did. Trust me, you don't want to have to have the braces put back on again or waste all that money.

You should do as you were instructed by your orthodontist for the best results. It's ok, not that bad to wear it 24/7 I see people in school who wear a retainer too. Really, I don't think that wearing glasses or braces or retainers or whatever is such a big deal anymore, now people see them as normal.

you should wear it as often as you doctor said to wear it - you are on the downhill slide of having a beautiful smile - don't screw it up now!

If you don't wear it as often as your doctor said, wear it as often as you can stand.
