There are many reasons why men join Freemasonry (and women in the case of the order "Co-Masonry", which is not affiliated with American Freemasonry). I can only speak to why I joined, as it is different for everyone.

I joined Freemasonry for the chance to be serviceable to my fellow man, to be able to help others and my community, as well as to meet a group of individuals who I know to be upstanding people who are trying to improve themselves and their community. I've had the opportunity to meet many people from many different walks of life, and have learned a great deal from members of my lodge. I've made friends with doctors and ditch diggers alike, most of whom I would never have met if it weren't for the lodge.

So those are some of my reasons, and I'm sure that other men could give somewhat different answers, but I would imagine that most others would answer that it has something to do with friendships and charitable work.

I joined Freemasonry, in my case American Co-Masonry, to make myself a more fitting vessel for the Ineffable Light of God. Sound esoteric enough? I found that there were service clubs aplenty (Lions, Rotary, Elks) that offered fellowship and good works. I wanted more.

I investigated masculine rite Freemasonry and thought about joining. However, I wanted a balance (women and men) and a harkening back to the Ancient Mystery Schools of old. I was told by several trusted friends in the masculine rite Freemasonry that esotericism may have once been there, but I would be probably be disappointed. So I waited. When I found that a friend was a member of American Co-Masonry, I asked her to put me in touch with the Order. Co-Masonry is considered "irregular" by some because we admit women as well as men. We see gender no more a barrier than race or religion. Yes, you have to believe in a Supreme Being to be a Mason.

I was initiated two and a half years ago. I became a Master Mason a year ago. I took the Mark degree this month. I travel about 800 miles a month to attend my two Lodges.

What we do in American Co-Masonry is ritual. Sounds creepy but it is not. It is ancient and it is constant. Each part is symbolic. Its aim is to awaken within every Brother (yes, we call even the women members "Brother") the virtues of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. We are a system of morality. We try to treat each other and the world fairly and squarely.

We do charitable deeds to help folks like the women's shelter, etc. But what we are about is the alchemy of transforming the lead of the heart into gold.

Isn't that what we are all seeking: happiness? What more can anyone desire than to be of use to him or herself, to find that their conscience is clear, and that they are doing right by their family, their country, their fellowman, and their God?

That is what we do. If you have any other questions, feel free to write me or click on the link below.

In my studies I have developed a deep interested in all things esoteric and Masonry attracted me. Many people of philosophical interest that has taken it to the deepest of levels has found Masonry as well. I have seen people join for wrong reasons but the the core of masonry is just unexplainable for each person and how they use the degrees.

The mission of Freemasonry is to promote a way of life that binds like minded men into a worldwide Brotherhood that transcends all religious, ethnic, cultural, social and educational differences; by teaching the great principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth: and, by the outward expression of these, through its fellowship, its compassion and its concern, to find ways in which each may serve his God, his family, his country, his neighbors and himself."

Freemasons are a group of men who try to better our world. People join freemasonry because they want a group of friends that they know they can trust no matter what and they know they will always be there for them.

They are satan worshippers. Its all about power and also being part of a group. I live in LA where people go around in red and owl symbology because they are so ******* soulless and substance less that they make this their identity because they dont have one.
