Try the new digital system , it`s fantastic , be prepared to pay around £300 for a basic unit but they can go for as much as a grand . music quality from them is crystal clear . i never changed my speaker system though didn`t need to !

it totally depends on your budget. first of all i would only consider an alpine head unit(they really are the dogs bollocks at the moment) then speaker wise alpine do a pretty decent range for a tighter budget. but if you can afford them you should have a look at the focal range for clean crisp sound. they are pricey but in my opinion are the best out there. i know amps and subs are a bit of a hassle but you really only achieve the best sound if you have speakers amped, if you consider how small the amp in your head unit is and how much work it has to do to power 4 speakers it really is better to run them of an amp, that could be placed under a seat out of the way if needed. its a personal choice really. hope this helps.

Sure that would work. Get a new HU of your choice(stick with Pioneer Premier,Eclipse,Alpine, or Kenwood Excelon).
Then, get i nice set of ADS,CDT,Boston Acoustic,Focal,Rainbow,or MB quart, component speakers.
Make sure to add sound deadning material to your doors or better yet get some kick pods for your components. Finally get a good 100-150watt ,per channel, 2 or 4channel amp for the components and rears if you want.(JL,Kicker,Zapco,JBL,Arc Audio or Elemental Desings) You should be very happy with the sound of a setup like that.
