Recently I experience this more and more in warehouse stores. One continues to stand in line directly behind the current person being checked out. So when their companion shows up they can go directly to the front of the line. Management of the warehouse store says they have no policy as to who gets to check out next. Kind of a survival of the fittest policy I guess.

YES and there should be a policy that doesn't allow this.

I think that is terrible. Morals play a lot into that. Weak morals sometimes have moraless outcomes. kinda sad, really. I feel more sorry for them, then I do for you. They get to go home with a smug, I beat the system look. But what they really did is cheated their neighbor. Good for you for noticing the difference. It's important we all remember times like these when we're on the other side of the fence. Now you know how the other half lives! lol! If you can't beat 'em or join 'em, then laugh at 'em.

Hum, Well I have been guilty of being in check out and realizing I forgot ONE item and having someone run back and get it for me. But in my instances I have not held anyone up really - I was checking out a lot of things and the cashier was still ringing.

OH and once I was a Little strapped but I wanted to get flowers for table. When I realized that I was going to have enough cash I darted back about oh 15 feet to the flowers and grabbed a bunch.

I think a lot of people have done it. Like standing it line for admission while some one else parks a car or gets tickets. This is not unforgivable.
However, shopping while your buddy holds your place disrespects everyone who has waited their turn. Some say this is what led to the extinction of Neanderthal Man.

I hate when people do that, it bugs the s**t out of me. Wal-Mart is the only place I ever see people doing that. I can understand if two people are in line together and they notice that an item is broken or leaking and one of them goes off to get a replacement, but for someone to keep going back and forth to the cart with armloads of crap is just unnecessary.

Nope its not unfair I call it the The check out loop hole it's not like your cutting because some one is standing there on your behalf (so the people behind are aware that someone is infront of them so they have to wait for there turn) if that person wasn't there then you would be there instead.

How rude is that??? If it were me and the person they were holding the place for wasn't there when it was there turn to check out I certainly wouldn't stand behind them until the other person got there I would ask him to move aside and go in front of them.

At leat the person waiting in line should have one item in hand while his/her companion is looking for more stuff. Also when it comes to his turn and his friend is not back yet, he should step aside to let the next person move forward.

No, it is not unfair. Why would it be? You can do the same. It's actually quite a good idea, but sometimes it's hard to coincide the timing. Just make sure you give up your place if your friend isn't back in time.

Another issue of impatience versus survival. No one wants to wait their turn, did you notice that recently??? It's called a reactionary rage, as in road rage, sidewalk rage, mall rage.... pass the other person to get to the stopping point first where everyone meets up eventually even after the rush to get nowhere............
