Okay so here's the deal: I'm not much of a drinker, it's never really appealed to me, so I never did it in high school. Now I'm in university and it's pretty much the norm. Last weekend I tried drinking with my friends, and it didn't go well, lol. Alcohol makes my head and stomach hurt, everything spins, and I get reallllly tired. I'm extremely shy, and I didn't find that it helped me "loosen up" any like people said it would. Is this normal?? I'm 19, and I'm in my first year of university. I know most people have been trashed by this point in their life, but I haven't... so please don't be mean! (Drinking age is 18 here in Montreal, by the way). We're all going out again tonight. If I don't want to drink alcohol, is it okay just to ask a bartender for water or something?
N.B. I only posted in the Singles and Dating section because I have a feeling more people read this than any other category.

I'm the same age as you and I'm at Loyola University Chicago. I really don't like hard alcohol too much. Do you think you'd enjoy just drinking a couple of beers to get you loosened up a little bit? It's not as fun when you're the only one not drinking.

It's not weird at all. I've only had one whole drink in my lifetime, a glass of Kosher wine, and I was too busy complaining about how bad it tasted to concentrate on getting trashed or looking mature. If you don't like alcohol, don't drink it just to be social — it's not worth it. But if you're worried about appearances, ask for a mineral water or a Red Bull. That's one step down from booze, in my opinion.

Its okay not to be a drinker. I think its actually real good. i am also 19 and dont drink. i on the other hand dont because I have a daugther but drinking only leads to abuse. my father died due to abusing alchol. Why would you want to go down that road. i think your being real smart. Go ahead and ask the bartender for water or juice who cares what they think in the long run your keeping yourself safer and healther. WAY TO GO!!!

If you don't like it then definately DON'T drink it at all. Your mind will be clearer too. More learning in College, etc.

Maybe try it again in 50 years when you are old and in some pain from living and being old. If you don't like it then, don't drink it then either.
